Most of these powdered flea killers is just a mix of boric acid and baking soda. Boxes of 20 Team Borax applied in the carpet and furniture will kill off your flea problem and is cheap.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. My roommate is in the process of getting the carpet killer right now. The fact that that will also kill fleas in the vacuum is a plus I didn't think of at first!

You can also get a water boiler and set it in the middle of the room with the top off. Fleas are naturally drawn to heat, they assume it's food, so they jump right in and die.

A small lamp, one of the ones you can twist and aim, point to a bowl of soapy water, turn off all other lights in room, fleas go to the light and wind up drowning in the soapy water (too slick, they cant climb out). 20 mule team borax sprinkled and swept into carpet, leave in for a full day then vacuum. This sounds crazy but works well, the boric acid in the borax kills flea larvae and stops the life cycle. Might be a good idea to use a product to kill existing adult fleas at the same time. I live in FL and fleas are a mother****** as there is no winter to slow them down, after using bombs, dips, sprays ect. for years the borax has completely eliminated all fleas in the house..

Had flea problem when my dog was a little puppy. Missed the medication for one week and that's all it took. Smoke the entire unit with fogger. Bought some kind of flea powder and apply on carpet per instruction. Spray flea and egg killer on infected area. We did it for a few days (except fogger) to be sure. Our dog now takes Comfortis and haven't had flea problem since.

make sure you clear your yorkie of fleas first. If you don't have the right flea medication now (don't use the OTC flea medication, I used on my dog before and cause serious allergic reaction), at least give him a bath with flea shampoo.

After you think you've killed them all, keep vacuuming every day. Gotta go through a couple life cycles to make sure they're gone (otherwise you kill the adults, but the eggs hatch a couple days later & it starts all over again.)
