AgaBoogaBoo, just be aware that the X1 is not very bright. Check out the chart I linked. The x1 is not as bright as the maglite 2AA, but the same size. The xo is a lot brighter and almost as bright as the maglite 3D.

x1 review. http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/inova_x1.htm

How about the X5? Disregard the edit about it not taking AA's earlier

Honestly, I'm just now getting interested in flash lights, not sure if I'll be buying another like this ever in my life or if I'll end up buying more and more in the future!

I don't want to spend too much just yet 🙂

sharkeeper, haha.. The only way I'd really get the U2 is if I won the lottery and after I buy a house!

I really like the ability to change output. Wish more affordable lights come with that feature.

The X1 is a standard (non LS) LED (no more than 20,000 mcd max) and uses a lens to collimate this into a tight spot with little side spill. Much better than a keychain light but no LS monster either. It's cheap though. An X5 will provide much more light with better spill. The X1 makes a great "going to the head in the middle of the night" light. I prefer my Arc AAA but as I said you cannot find these and the ones on ebay go for ridiculous monies now.

You may want to consider the T series.

AgaBoogaBoo, http://www.policegearusa.com has the x1 for cheaper. I bought my xo from them, so I assume they're decent service. Their links/pages don't seem to work for me, but you can just enter 'x1' into the search and it should find it for you.

What are you planning to use a new flashlight for? It can help to narrow down your choices..

Yeah, X5T is what I'm leaning towards unless you guys have any other reccomendations at a similar price, shape, and size! I want something the same size throughout in terms of the body of the flashlight. I don't like the tips being larger when the flashlights are this small.

Damn, I'm getting really picky!

Thanks for the link 🙂

As for the use, no real need for this flashlight, but I like to have one at night when I'm walking around inside. I'm usually up late so it won't just be sitting on a table for weeks 😛

What do you use flashlights like this for?

Oh yeah, should mention, I want something small so I can keep it in my pocket 😛

How much light do you need and for what duration and using what batteries?

No need for any honestly!

As for duration, don't really care. If I use it a lot, I can always just get some nice rechargeable batteries. As for batteries, I'm open to any as long as it doesn't cost me and arm and a leg to buy them!

Get a Photon III and wear it on a neck lanyard like dog tags.

I don't have a belt on either but I have the light near the bed and it's only a short reach away. 🙂

I have the X5. It's very handy and for occasional nighttime use, it lasts quite awhile. My first batteries lasted about 10 months or so, may have been longer. Batteries are somewhat expensive, but it's a terrific light for its size. My only complaint is that it's so cylindrical that it rolls far too easily -- need to put a lanyard or something on it to prevent that. Makes Mini-MagLites seem like child's toys. Still have a couple of those, and I can't stand them now after using the X5.

If you want really bright lights, go look at a dive shop. I have an 8 D cell light that is absolutely incredible. It weighs a ton, but there's nothing brighter. I also have a small 8 AA cell light by Pelican which is pretty damn bright for its size. Other dive lights: rechargeable 4 C cell equivalent, another 4 C cell one, and a 6 C cell one. AND they go down to 160 ft of water without any problems whatsoever. 😀

Also have a large MagLite. It's great as a flashlight because it also doubles as a weapon.
