Flashing 7800GTs

Ok, so I have my SLI rig up in running, FINALLY.

I ahve the eVGA 515 and 516 cards. both default to 470/1100 according to coolbits and rivatuner.

My problem is that I cant seem to overclock these badboys using coolbits or Rivatuner. both cards will do 510 on the core and the weaker 515 will do 1170 on the mem with no artifacts. When I overclock using coolbits, 3Dmark reports the correct memory speed, but the core is reported at 468mhz. Same thing in Rivatuner.

To fix this problem, I am going to flash to both cards to run 500/1170 by default.

I actually helped my neighbor across the street volt mod the core on his BFG 7800GT through a BIOS flash and it worked great. So I have a bootable floppy that is setup to blind flash in case of a foul up. I was going to replace the BIOS from his card on that floppy with a copy of my original 516 BIOS.

So am I correct in assuming that I just use Nibitor to edit my cards default clocks and save that to a second floppy and flash both cards with the edited BIOS??

What are the commands for Nvflash?

Thanks for any help!

hi again

nvflash -b filename.rom (for backup)
nvflash -4 -5 -6 filename.rom (for flashing)

Anyway of flashing with both cards installed? I only ask because it's a huge pain to remove one card with the tubing and waterblock.

hehe, look at my opty rig and you'll notice we all have a similar setup.

I was thinking of doing the same. So basically is this how it goes:
1.)Boot up dos and make backup of bios
2.)Take backup and make multiple copies just incase something gets fvck'ed up.
3.)Take the bios you got and modify using Nibitor to w/e you want (like 500/1170) and make a new bios rom file
4.)then take that file, boot up into dos, and flash using nvflash.

Is that correct? (Is there an easier way to get the bios file?)

Also about Nibitor, is there a way I can make the fan always go at 12v, I got the VF700 so 12v is almost silent and I want the better cooling all the time. Or should/can I just do this in Coolbits?

I'm new on the Nvidia side after upgrading from my 9800XT.

That is the exact procedure I am about to embark on.

I dont think there is a way to flash with both cards in, so I'm just gonna do one at a time.

Alright, at least were on the same page. I would do it one at a time even if doing both at once was an option.

So what about my fan question? Is there a way to always have the fan on 12v with bios flash or coolbits?

I'm not exactly sure about the fan question. I'll look in Nibitor in a few minutes. I think Rivatuner allows you to control fan speeds though.

I kind of didn't want to install any third party tools and wanted to keep it with Coolbits or a bios flash.

Nibitor does indeed let you change the fan speeds.

Mine was set at 43% for 3D.

I changed it to 100%, think that's overkill?

Were in Nibitor does it let you change it? I must be blind I can't find the dam thing. (and the fact that is 2 in the morning and I'm really, really tired)

EDIT: And by the way, if you want more OC, 100% isn't that much of an overkill, as long as its not too loud!!!

Found it. And I couldn't find it cause I had the wrong version of Nibitor (I had 2.1 when 2.6 was latest).

I feel stupid now, well off to bed.
