How essential is Flash to your web browsing experience?

My biggest gripe with Flash (and Shockwave), as a network administrator, is the lack of any management features and the inability to turn off update checks. I have no interest in updating Flash or Shockwave unless a website or program that's widely used in the organization requires a newer version. I'd like the ability to turn off update checks AND the ability to more easily deploy updates (yes I know, you can get MSI files, but there's too many hoops to go through).

Java, for all its faults, can be told not to check for updates quite easily. Why can't Adobe do this too?

Flash is so far pointless on my iPhone. I have had it for several weeks now and have yet to find a single legitimate use for it. All of the video sites already support the iphone using another, vastly superior, format.

I use Android. First an Eris, now an X, and I still don't miss Flash. (although I guess I'll have it soon.)

I guess not having flash on a mobile device doesn't bother me too much. Even on a desktop I end up blocking it.

Although it would be nice to have the option, but the reasons why I don't mind not having it are:

It's slow
Battery life
Most are ads
Doesn't work with Hulu

The times I do need flash legitimately is very rare.

Installed Click-To-Flash about 1 year ago and never looked back.
Have to click through to enable Flash every now and then but I don't miss it.

Of course they could but they didn't which is why it's great to be able to have Flash and if you want to know my Flash experience search, I already posted it as have many of us. It doesn't matter if Flash is overused or not. The fact that it's used says you will probably need it in some form.

Again, and to be honest, 95% of the web sites I visit don't require it. I probably only have to enable it on a web site a couple of times a week. Most of the time the web sites could have easily been done without Flash and load faster because of it. I'm just interested in seeing what type of sites some of you are getting hit with. I'm not trying to make a judgement on your or Flash though I think it is overused and provides unnecessary bloat on some web sites. And don't get me wrong, Flash is currently the best thing for web based games at the moment which I don't play.
