Flannel sheets: are they really worth it?

Anyone used flannel sheets in the winter? Do they require special care? Any recommended brands or styles?

I've used them and didn't care any differently for them than other sheets, but I can't say it's honestly worth doing for me personally. I get extremely hot and typically sleep with a ceiling fan on in the winter, so grain of salt. If you are constantly cold it might help you.

Flannel sheets are the only way to go in the winter. My room could be downright frigid and I'll be toasty with only a comforter on top.

They're amazing in winter. There's no feeling cold when you first get into bed, no cold spot, they always feel warm.

Living in the Northeast I loved em! They get warm the instant you lay on them unlike cotton sheets in the winter making you feel like you are slipping into a drawer of a morgue

I'm honestly pretty indifferent to my sheets, as long as they are not super scratchy. I am currently using some, apparently, decent flannel sheets (a friend of mine loves them, so she picked them out for when I moved into my new place) and they are fine, but I care more about my pillow and mattress. As long as my mattress and pillow are comfortable, I can sleep on whatever sheets.

Edit: also my duvet is more than warm enough, so flannel is not needed.

we always use them in winter and in the travel trailer most seasons. In the trailer we run little or no heat most of the time.

I've always found them to be way too warm... flannel sheets = I'll wake up in the middle of the night to find that I threw half the sheets off me in my sleep because I was so hot.

in the wintertime, I just use my usual cotton sheets with an extra blanket on top of the comforter as needed.

No. I hate them. They grab on to your clothing more so when turning it's uncomfortable and you have to readjust too much. Really annoying. I guess if you wore silk then it would be fine but we're talking winter here.

I hate them too. I like crisp sheets year 'round. If I'm cold at night, I throw on another blanket.

Those of you that talk about it being cold in the winter, how so? I keep the climate control around 70 all year so it's no colder during the winter than it is during the summer. I can't stand the way flannel feels so I'll stick with my 600tc cotton.

Love them and would not live without them in the northeast winters. I can turn the heat WAY down at night and with flannel sheets and an electric blanket I'll stay very warm. What sets flannel sheets apart is that they never develop a cold spot. Getting into bed after a trip to the bathroom or even just rolling over in the middle of the night with regular sheets you hit those uncovered spots that are 30 degrees cooler than places under the blankets. With flannel those cold spots are gone, every inch of the sheets is warm all the time.

No special care required other than not using fabric softener. It's bad for flannel.
