FLAMING HOT!!! Soltek Nforce3 250 board (refurb)

Got mine and all is good. Come with all retail goodies even a disc drive emulator I havent tried yet that supposedly by passes many copy write protections 😱

I ordered this along with a new PSU. Then I changed my mind on the PSU, and found what I wanted somewhere else (cheaper/better PSU, more expensive/non-refurb mobo). I called Chiefvalue to cancel, and it was amazingly easy. They answered immediately, cancelled the order, and Emailed me within a few minutes to confirm. Highly recommend them for their service.

Im tempted to get this but don't know how much of an improvement it will be over my Mobile Athlon XP @2.2Ghz. Anyone?

I got one of these to do that exact thing.

I paired it up with a 2800+ sempron.

At first I couldn't get the board to go over 250htt , so I went and ordered a Chaintech VNF3-250.

Then over this past weekend I swapped back and forth between the boards to see which one I could get running the best.

I learned about a program called clockgen, and with that I could get the soltek board over 250htt.

but eventually, i started having IDE issues at stock speeds, then corrupted boot screens, then it wouldn't work with any hard drive.. 🙁

so I am going to RMA it back.

The chaintech is a lot more finicky about memory, but I ended up with 2.3Ghz@ 1.47v on the processor, and about 190 on my value memory with good timings.

That was the only changes to my system, and I have a 9700 pro video card. I didn't even reformat. my previous set up was an asus a7n8x and a 2800+ Barton @2.2 ghz

UT2004 gained a few frames (10-20) and lost the slow downs, and I was able to bump up a couple things in Battle Field 2 , and it seems a bit smoother .

I am sure with a format and clean install, the gains would have been more.

If the replacement board turns out ok, I will most likely sell the the a7n8x and barton cpu and buy another sempron cpu 😀

With overclocking, I definitely feel it was worth it.

I received this board a week ago (stickers on the board, all accessories, appeared brand new) and finally got everything together this weekend to assemble it.

Everything seems functional on the board except for the onboard NIC. No biggie, I had a handful of extra NICs laying around.

I need to update my o/c knowledge though. Last time I overclocked I used a pencil to connect some traces 😉
