I hope you aren't implying that if one sees the flag as simply a piece of cloth it must mean they don't love their country. Is that what you are saying in the above quote?

There are a few rare exceptions

I suggest a law that says that the government recognizes that burning a flag is intended to provoke onlookers, and that no penalty greater than $10 be assesed against anyone responding to such provocation with physical violence that does not result in maiming or death. The potential flag burner is put on notice that he may get his ass kicked and will not be able to sue for millions or call for the imprisonment of those he provoked. Probably not a good idea for a law really, but it does reflect my feelings to some degree.

That is quite possibly the dumbest things I have read on here today (with the exception of the disruption thread).

All violent criminals should be castrated after hours of genital torture. These people would be no exception in my mind. Kicking the ass of someone because they did something you don't like is an increadibly stupid and childish thing to do.

So, by corollary, getting involved in WWII because Japan did something we didn't like was an incredibly stupid and childish thing to do?

If someone approached you and your wife at the mall and, in a loud voice, called your wife a whore, slut, bitch, etc., your response would be what? I am not ashamed to say that if such a thing happened to me, I would slip into ass-kickin' mode. And absolutely, it would be a simple violent response to someone doing something I didn't like.

I was going to post something similar
If you can get the death penalty for committing treason, shouldn't burning the flag, spitting on the Declaration of Independence or defecating in front of the Vietnam Wall deserve a little of Black & Blue God bless the USA luvin'?
