Something I've always noticed with a hamburger. Restaurants always skimp or forget about the bun.

I hate hate it when I'm eating a burger and the bun doesn't hold up or is disintegrated.

Give me a meaty bun like a kaiser bun.

Their buns aren't cheap, actually the most expensive part of the burger...
but they are a LITTLE small for the patties.

Bagels make great Burger Buns, but they also add 300+ Calories by themselves. :D

i want to say 5 guys bun is around 500 calories....

Now that you mention it, I think I may have low balled the Calorie count. I ate 2 halves of a bagel for breakfast for a few days, then I read the Nutrition label and just about jammed a finger down my throat.

Why do you eat a burger instead of eating something like spaghetti? Because a burger can be eaten with no utensils and you won't get shit on your hands. Tacos are the same, burritos the same, fries are slightly the same. Now with that in mind, can the burger in this picture be eaten without getting shit on your hands? Do not want :(

No, I eat a burger instead of spaghetti because (good) burgers are wonderfully delicious. If you don't need several napkins, that's a bad sign.

I went again yesterday - it really depends on what toppings you add to it because I remember I've had better but can't remember what I chose.

So what do you guys put on it in terms of A1 sauce, ketchup or BBQ sauce, or even mayo? I don't know what the best combo is. Other than that, it's always grilled onions/mushrooms at a minimum.

I don't use A1 for anything, it fucking sucks.

You guys don't use mayo?!

I don't like mayo either, but I use very little of it to create a barrier between the bun and the condiments. This is how you get an unsoggy bun, the fat repels moisture from lettuce, ketchup etc.

Other buns I've tried is a pretzel and a ciabatta. The ciabatta was awesome, but for a conventional bun I use a kaiser.

It's a sloppy burger :) The technique is you have to leave it in the wrapper and peel it away gradually...like a burrito.

Just tried Five guys for the first time myself.

They suxxorz. It's like they went over to burger king and bought a bunch of $1 double cheeseburgers and charged $5.30 for them. Fries were quite good but also expensive (a bit over $3 for regular size fries)

In-n-out is miles and miles ahead of five guys in terms of burgers, and prices are much more reasonable. Could get a giant 4X4 at In-n-out that I could barely eat for about $5 as oppose to the normal sized hamburger from Five Guys for $5.30. Real disappointed :/ - At least their fries are good though :D - In-n-outs fries are so-so (then again they are $1.25 as opposed to Five Guy's $3+ fries).

i went to 5 guys now that one just opened up near work...i thought the food was really good, but way god damn overpriced. i can get a damn decent burger fresh cooked with fries and a soda at a nearby area chain for less than 6 bucks.

i can go to Cook Out, a state chain, and get 2 trays with: 1 entree, 2 sides and a shake each for 12 bucks. it cost me over 11 to get a burger, fries and a drink. its good...its not 12 dollars good, imo

Yea Five Guys is good but no where near what everyone says and definitely not worth the huge price they charge.

$11 for my baconburger + fries + drink.

I'm gonna go back next week hopefully. I'll re-evaluate after having In-n-Out a few days ago.

Also, it's quite greasy I think. I feel a bit guilty eating it.

I like Five Guys but I just wish it didn't take me 25 minutes to get there from home. I eat there more often when I'm in the area but not very often at all from home or work.
