Five Guys is pretty damn good, but Backyard Burger's Big Chipotle Burger is simply superior. It may not be as big, but it's cheaper and beats it out in taste. Surprised to not see the chain on there!

When i moved here 13 years ago there was 2 Backyard Burgers that i knew of. Both are out of business now. I personally think 5 Guys is better, but Backyard Burger was also good.

And now im curious to try the 5 Guys Hot Dog after reading this thread.

I'm on the east coast(NY) and I've had In-n-Out and Five Guys. In-n-Out wins by a land slide. Every time I go to Cali I Google to see if there's an In-n-Out nearby where I'm staying. IO is the best.

This. I enjoyed it and like the options, but it's been over hyped.

Next time, order it right. You have to get their "intended' burger for best taste. When you go in, ask for "the works" or "Everything".

You get:
-mustard
-catsup
-mayo
-pickles
-grilled onions
-grilled mushrooms
-cheese
-lettuce
-tomato

It really is perfection like this. If you go in and just order lettuce and cheese, you're going to be disappointed.

Not fair to compare five guys to in and out since five guys isn't really fast food.

Five guys is better but I wish they had animal style dressing.

lol @ the morons who think five guys make shit burgers

Love them, love the fries, too. Oe is opening 2 miles from the house thank God so I won't have to drive 20 miles to get them any longer.

I'd love them to come to Canada.

Wonder if there are any in Detroit / Mich... Please advise...

Yep, there are a couple in the Detroit market. New ones opening in West Bloomfield and Livonia.

in and out isn't really any different. they both do made to order and take longer then other fast food places. it may be slightly faster but you still get a number and sit down and they call you

you also get a whole hell of a lot more for your money (3.5 ounce patties)
That's not a heck of a lot. A standard quarter pounder is 4 ounces.

god damn i'm tired of reading about these awesome places like in and out and five guys. i'm cursed with bk, wendy's and McD's shitty food.
Wendys is the best. Even their cheapest burgers come with cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and pickles.

Paying $10 for lunch is bullshit. You can get a triple baconator and a large drink for that much, and there's no way I could eat that much. This one Asian place near a previous job would give a huge box full of fried rice with egg and chinese sausage for $6. It was awesome.

McDonalds and Wendys will do this too if you ask for it. Just say you want it made fresh, and they'll start it fresh. I would strongly recommend doing that if you ever order a quarter pounder at mcdonalds. The regular quarter pounder meat sits there for hours because they don't move very fast; making it fresh tastes so much better. Wait time is about 5 minutes.

Speaking of cheap lunch, I miss Burrito Max. Used to get 3lbs of food for 4$

1lb ground beef, 1lb of beans and 1lbs of rice with lettuce and tomatoes mixed in

was fucking great

It's the fries that are expensive... if you get just the cheeseburger, it comes out to $7.5 after taxes[in NY]

I got the fries the first time just to try it out, but I usually never order fries if the option were available anyway.

Woahhh. The cheeseburgers cost $3.50 here in Detroit not sure why our 5 guys charge so little here listening to what you all are paying across the country for the same burger.

yea was annoying, that place was always packed and the food was good and quick/ IIRC the burrito lady just moved onto something else

we used to send someone to the Italian place next door to buy a soda and get a free bag of warm rolls to go with our tub of rice/beans

In N Out has a lot of hype but the price is CHEAPER than most burger joints.

My favorite burger is still the classic Whopper from BK. I used to eat 4 whoppers per lunch every day in Highschool (99 cents each!!!!).

McDonalds do have some good fries but fries vary GREATLY by location and the employees who make them.

Edit: Also check these guys out... http://www.heartattackgrill.com/

The fact that Starbucks is #1 for anything leads me to believe that Zagat is completely worthless.

Have you been there lately? They made it more of an "upscale" place. Their burgers actually are pretty good now.

None of the fast food chains makes a burger comparable to Five Guys. That's why I pay the difference. The only burger I've ever had that compares to a place like Five Guys is either from the more expensive restaurants, or at home - a perfectly-cooked bleu-cheese burger on the grill at home will beat Five Guys, but not all the time.

I wish Five Guys had the option to add Bleu Cheese as a topping. My god I'd mess my pants if they did that.

^^ LOL @ comparing wendy's quality to 5 guys quality.
The only place for 5 guys is in my ass. When I want food, I think Wendy's :D

Quality also depends on when you order a burger. McDonalds is good at lunch or supper because lots of people are buying stuff and meat is always relatively fresh; the meat might have been cooked 5 minutes ago. If you go to mcdicks at 1am, it's going to taste like shit. The same meat has probably been sitting in the tray for the past 3 hours. I'm not joking. I worked at mcdonalds before, and we would ignore those 15 minute rules where you need to throw meat out after 15 minutes. I've never gotten sick from eating at mcdonalds, but it sure as shit doesn't taste good at certain times of the day.

Five Guys is classified as "Fast-Casual" (think, "Subway"), not fast food. Stop comparing them to In-n-Out. Also, when I moved to the West Coast, one of the first things I did was check to see if Five Guys is around. They are, but the closest ones are pretty far away from me (close to LA when I'm in SD).

Anyway, their burgers won? Curious. I think their hotdogs are pretty good and compare more favorably to the competition but their fries blow everything else away.
