Out of curiosity, Perky, did you try the cajun fries?

I would have, but the birthday girl I was with didn't want her own order, yet did want "some" and said she wouldn't have any if I got the cajuns, so I got the regular ones.

I would have preferred the cajun ones, I'm sure, but I thought the regulars were quite good even so.

And, before anyone says "cheap b-day present" I told her we could go anywhere she wanted and she chose 5 Guys! :awe:

A tip that my officemate taught me is that you can ask them for cajun seasoning and they'll give you a container of it. You can then just split the fries up, and leave your portion in the bag. Just dump the desired amount of seasoning in the bag and shake it up. You look kinda goofy doing it, but the better taste is worth it! :D

I went to Philly this weekend and had both Pat's and Geno's steaks. MY GOD ARE THEY OVERRATED. Nathan's chain restaurants' philly steaks are just as good if not better. I just can't believe anyone anymore... I've had Five Guys plenty of times and it's pretty good though. Load that sucker up and watch sauce drip down your hand.

Both Pat's and Genos jumped the shark years ago. That's what tourista fame will do. Next time you go to Philly, go to Tony Luke's and have a roast pork with provolone and broccoli rabe and garlic sammy.

Then come back here and thank me! :awe:

Even then, better hurry, as the fame/tourista/hype machine is overtaking them now, as well.

you also get a whole hell of a lot more for your money (3.5 ounce patties)

You do but I spent $11 for a burger + fries + drink. That's not cheap. I can spend about half at In-n-Out and get my regular double meat burger.

Yes and I used to do 10x10 challenges @ In-n-Out with my friends. Those ran for just over $10.

I went to my first Five Guys in CA today. Haven't had this stuff since I was elsewhere in the US, but geez. My bag was completely full with grease. It was see thru practically. The fries were good, but honestly I'll take In-n-Out's Fries Well Done anyday. The burger is good. I will admit. But more like a typical good burger place. In-n-Out puts a twist on burgers now that I look at it. I'm not gonna say this is bad but I feel like getting a heart attack after eating this stuff.

I only feel bad with In-n-Out when I eat all of my fries well done, but the burger is fine. Here? Man. I feel like I just ate 2 pounds of grease. It's a bit too much food for me although I have no problem finishing. I'd just rather not walk out so bloated.

There is a 5 guys burger next to the sushi place where i work. We are both pretty friendly and they give us a lot of free food.

This past week i got to try the bacon cheese burger and the bacon dog and they were both really good. I am not a fan of their fries (always free) but having grilled onions and mushrooms with jalapenos make me happy :)

You guys should try the bacon dog with grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, ketchup and hot sauce. It was recommended by one of the employees and it came out fantastic.

5 Guys is good, but are only rated higher because there are so many more of them than In-N-Out. The fact I can go to any So Cal In-N-Out at any time of the day and see 4x as many people as at a 5 Guys out here speaks volumes. 4x might even be a low ball estimate. I went to In-N-Out the other night and both drive thru's were backed onto the surface street. And inside there was a line all the way to the door.

In N Out Protein Style >>>>>> 5 Guys for taste
5 Guys >>>>> In N Out for a far shorter wait to get my grub.

With that said, a Chili Cheese Burger from Tommys KILLS both.

I dunno. I went there at almost 2pm today and it was packed up the wazoo. Then again there's probably 5 other In-n-Outs that I could've gone to that's closer than this 5 Guys that's 12 min away from my house... but In-n-Out is always bustling. Up til 1am when it closes. Of course 5 Guys is the new rage in CA so this could be why its so packed at the moment.

I can see it dying down. I love being able to hit up In-n-Out and having a decent half meal for $3 or something.

Perhaps it's because your median income ranks 66th out of 68 and the average home there is under $6,000.

I wish that that applied to things other than 5 Guys burgers and houses. Sadly, (most) things are not markedly cheaper in Detroit just because it's a shit hole.

5 Guys are crowded, but a lot less so, especially considering In-N-Out will probably have 3 or more locations within a 10 mile drive. If there were an equal number of 5 Guys I bet you could easily go get a burger and only have a few people in it. 5 Guys is all the rage right now no doubt, but will it last? I dunno.

I've never been to In-N-Out, but I'd assume a Five Guys will be more packed than other places partly because of how long it takes to get your meal. So people tend to queue up more, and then if you get a decent amount of food, it will take you a decent amount of time to eat it :p.

Parking is usually pretty bad at the Five Guys around here... I end up parking in the hotel parking lot that's right beside it. Some people even park on the side of the lanes, which can cause quite the traffic problems. Although, this one time... I was waiting to turn down a lane, but this white (2nd gen) Eclipse was in the way. It kind of sat there for half a minute and started to move. Once it turned the corner, I just watched as its door flew open. "Oops, forgot to close the door!"

At least we were amused :).

So after reading all of the 5 Guys frenzy here on ATOT, I went to one today in Cerritos, CA. Got a Bacon burger with the works sans mayo, pickles, and cheese but added jalepenos and a side of cajun fries. Girlfriend got a little burger. Came out to about $12 bucks, which would have normally been $5 bucks at In N Out.

Burger was alright. The more toppings help it out a bit but it wasn't the "OMG IS AMAZING" as so many of you put it out to be. For the price and the drive, I probably wouldnt be going there so much anyways. The fries are good too but come on, cajun is just extra seasoning. I put black pepper on my fries and that tastes just as well too.

I'd give it a 7/10. Its good, but not great.

Your experience matched mine. I tweeted something like that at lunch today. But you have to admit the meal was big. I was invited to eat at Google for dinner today and I completely didn't feel like eating at 7. I think lunch just filled me. Or maybe that Jamba Juice I got afterward did the trick :D

Actually it kinda left me wanting more so I went and got a Jamba Juice like an hour later LoL.

Also could be the fact that I didnt eat breakfast and it was my first meal of the day at 3 pm.

But yea, I usually get a Double Meat, a hamburger (for GF), and an order of fries at In N Out for around 5 bucks. Double Meat is more than enough to fill me.

Burgers and fries are really bad for you, if I'm going to eat unhealthy I might as well get the tastiest food I possibly can. Tommys will kill me, but I'll die happier. They're prices are lower, and you can get extra Chili for FREE! Tommys Chili + In N Out Burger would more than likely create the most delicious possible burger ever. Perhaps tomorrow I'll get Chili to go from Tommys and head to In N Out to test this theory.

I'll try that and get back to you. The Counter is all over CA and it's got a good presence in the Bay Area...

The Counter is sit down so it shouldn't be compared to any fast food place, with that said I'll take a burger from The Counter over anywhere I've ever had one.

Counter Burger with Garlic Aioli >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> every other burger elsewhere x100

In N Out has a lot of hype but the price is CHEAPER than most burger joints.

My favorite burger is still the classic Whopper from BK. I used to eat 4 whoppers per lunch every day in Highschool (99 cents each!!!!).

McDonalds do have some good fries but fries vary GREATLY by location and the employees who make them.

Edit: Also check these guys out... http://www.heartattackgrill.com/

Wow, mad props. ~3000 calories for lunch? I had ~5k calories per day in high school and I thought that was a ton.

a combo at wendys is like $7 or $8, at five guys its like $9 or $10.

thing about 5 guys too is if you go with someone else, you can split a 'small' fries and still have some left over between the two of you.

and like others have said, it's not really 'fast food' in the traditional sense. they make the patties for you there, they aren't frozen patties that are shipped that way.

like with anything, you get what you pay for ... but i didn't realize $9 or $10 is 'pricey' for a meal now a days. that is pretty much the standard when i go out to eat lunch at work now a days at chipotle, cosi, noodle company, subway, perfect pita, etc.

for wendys, bk, mcd's or carls everyone i know gets the dollar menu and loads up on double cheeseburgers, or the 2.99 meals with extra dollar menu items, so ~5 bucks for lunch.

10-11 bucks i can goto chilis or olive garden, so ya for fast food, it's up there in price.

There's to go parking, but I didn't know people came out to give you your stuff. (I don't really plan on eating there regardless - just curious)
