Five Guys hype

If you're counting calories at all, then you aren't eating a bacon cheeseburger with fries, regardless where it came from. That burger slathered with mayo, bacon, and cheese grilled at your house is no healthier.

I'm pretty athletic and enjoy five guys every now and then. I get a bacon cheeseburger in a bowl with all the veggies + mayo, mustard, no ketchup. Decent macros, lots of fat and adequate protein with very little carbs.

In the southeastern U.S., this is an incredible understatement. Seriously, a Chick Fil A franchise is a license to print money. At lunchtime, they often have 2 drive though windows, plus multiple order takers on foot outside, relaying them in on handheld POS machines, and it's still a madhouse. I am amazed at how courteous they are, and how people navigate the feeding frenzy in relatively good moods. Breakfast is just as nuts, maybe with a few less dine in customers.

Anyway, they destroy the other FF joints, even McDs. Chipotle gets packed too, but only for about an hour. I've been in a long line at CFA at 2:30 on a random afternoon. I can't imagine how much money a franchisee can make, even if corp overhead is high.

I live in Northern Illinois, and Chick-Fil-A by far, and I mean by a far, far margin, have the nicest, most respectful and energetic employees of any fast food joint. It's like stepping into an alternate reality!

This has always impressed me. They also seem to hire English speaking personnel for the drive through window as well. WTF? Common sense? 😱

I am just amazing they can manage to not screw up an order that is different than the standard. I've all but given up modifying anything at McDonalds. You asked for no pickles? Well, now you get extra onions, no mustard, and some ranch inside!

Nashville is just below national average in terms of cost of living yet your Five Guys is somehow way more expensive. I'd say you're not as 'average priced' in location as you think.

$9.70 out the door for that meal at the West End location. $9.20 if you want to go ~30 miles outside of Nashville.

your local McD's must be really terrible.

It's usually a language thing in my experience. My local Wendy's is about 50/50 on getting my burger right, even when the person at the drive-through repeated my order back perfectly. Learned from one drive-through worker that the people in the kitchen pretty much don't speak English, so there's a bit of a disconnect. 😛

randomly: I was VERY happy to see McD using fresh eggs for their mcmuffins. I need me some more sausage....mcmuffins in my life.

5 Guys tastes pretty good, just find their expensive prices for their small portions not worth it despite the relatively good tasting burgers. There are better places that have good tasting burgers that equal or exceed 5 guys and either give you bigger portions for the price or just cheaper prices.

It's okay to go to for a novelty every so often I guess.

Funny thing I noticed about Chick-Fil-A is that every single one I've ever been to has been staffed only with cute cheerleader-type white teenage/highschool girls. And I know it isn't just the location either, because if you go to any other fast food joint on the same strip they're all staffed by a mix of fat dumpy people, minorities and older folks.

Methinks Chick-Fil-A has a hiring profile standard. Which wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The two CFA restaurants closest to me have many black employees. They're just as clean-cut and polite as all their employees are expected to be. Very pleasant and the service is always excellent.

I actually really like the bacon they put on the burgers at Five Guys. I think that's yet another reason why I like them so much more than In-N-Out; I love bacon a burger and you can't get it at INO.

This is the case in the south. I haven't tried it up north, but every fast rood place, minus Chick-Fil-A, is pretty much 100% chance of screwing up your order and I'd give it 60/40 you won't even get what you ordered if you have some complicated mess. If your McDonalds order sounds like a Starbucks coffee order, you were lucky to get anything.

I have been hearing and reading Five Guys hype for a long time and I finally tried it. Good thing I had not fell for the hype, I wouldn't even put it in my top 5 if I had to make a list. It straight up tasted like a home made burger and it was not bad or anything though. The fries did really disappoint the most, so meh.

Next I need to try Chipolte to see how reality compared to interweb hype

Five guys sucks, they sell you a 14$ pile of grease with some beef on the side. Also their fries are basically the worst i have eve rhad, it tastes like they soak them in toilet water before giving them to the customer, they are so soggy and disgusting.

Chipoltes is OK once in a while, but if you have it too often you will get sick of the lime flavoring they add to EVERYTHING. Id give five guys a 0/10 and chipoltes a 5/10.

Subway is better than both......

I've only tasted lime in the rice. Most people get rice on everything though, so that might be part of it.

Subway better than chipotle? That's absurd enough to not be taken seriously, but nice try

ppppppppsssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh P-UH-LEEZ

Chipolte is 95% lime encrusted rice, 4% beans, and .2% meat, the rest is tortilla. At least with subway they always stuff my sub to the brim with everything, and not just filler like rice.

Weird, I've never had any issue with the amount of meat from Chipotle. I usually get half chicken and half pork and there is a tonne of meat on there. I only ever get bowls though, so can't comment on how an actual burrito works.

That might be the secret then......

I always get the regular burrito. Which is huge BTW, but its all rice and no meat. I might have to try a burrito bowl next time......

On a side note, which hot sauce do you prefer? I find the mild to be too watery, the medium (green) to generally taste bad, and the hot salsa is all heat with no flavor. I guess I just dont like chipolte.

Their tacos are good though.

try this:

--no rice please
--half rice please

etc..

here's the thing--they only put it on there if you want it. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

and I also only get bowls now. Burrito is just too much.
