I've made a couple orders from NewEgg without a hitch, but that's not the point. Every time I see a post from somebody having trouble with NE, they get jumped on by the hoard, telling him that he must have done something wrong, or is mistaken... EVERY TIME!

I don't give a damn about screw ups. Wrong parts get picked, and shipped all the time. I understand that. But, this crap about sending used parts as new, is VERY troubling. Same with the ResellerRatings issue. Those things, I will NOT look the other way for.

The first 10 responses to this were "call newegg and have them resolve the problem, this is fairly unusual", untill this got turned into a flamefest.

Instead you jumped on Ornery, who was the biggest threat to your beloved newegg.

Don't buy cheap cases from newegg. I had one that showed up pretty busted up (building a system for my buddy). I called them up and they sent me a new case front. IT still doesnt look that good, but it works. Newegg is very good with RMA's. I had to send in a DOA video card here a little while ago. I had to pay shipping ($8) to send it back to get a refund of $45. Pretty crappy that I had to pay shipping, but that is their policy.

"this is fairly unusual"

I know that's what was said, which is what bugs me. I'm beginning to think it's NOT that unusual. I'm beginning to think they try to unload used stuff on purpose. If ResellerRatings had more posts saying this is the case, then we'd know for sure, but now I wonder if they can even be trusted.

I also notice that the people complaining in their AT rants about NewEgg, never bother to post in AT's Vender Ratings... hell, I can't even find a link to it since the wondrous facelift.

You're right, he wasn't really "jumped on", since there's a smiley in there, but I took it as an accusation just the same.

That's the breaks in any online/mail order deal, you occassionally have damaged goods arrive. I am curious you just didn't call them first. They are spot on on making things good in my experience. I can't remember what I exchanged with them but I do remember they were one of the easier ones....I think ATI is about the best, but slow due to the country border stuff at times (not their fault).

God, how old is that thing? It's probably the remote's dead batteries.

So pissed at newegg right now..... - sh4nsen 08/30/2003
  • I recieved the parts for my new system a couple days ago:

    Athlon 2500+
    Asus A7n8x deluxe
    160GB SATA RAID
    ATI 9800
    etc
    etc....

I get everything mounted into my sleek Antec Sonata Case, i take it to my desk to power it on........and NOTHING. I rememberd while my order was in transit that i forgot to get memory.....all i had was the ECC PC2100 leftover from my Dual 1200MP setup before, and ECC ram doesnt work in this MB. I threw it in anyway expecting to get a beep code out of it at least. It didnt even give me a beep error code from the BIOS! So i took the ram out completely....still no beep code. I took out the VGA Card, no beep code at all. Im so god damn pissed right now, i had to pay 2 day shipping rates and had to wait an actual 3 days before it all got here....only to have my motherboard show up D O A.

When i pulled the MB out of the shipping box i noticed that it was not factory sealed, this immediately made me cringe. The manuals were very shoddy looking as if they had been handled by someone else, with pen markings and frayed edges, etc. The anti static bag that the MB was in had some small holes that were torn into it from the Heatsink on the Nforce2 chipset...indicating there was a lot of pressure put on the board. It is totally apparent that newegg just shipped me a customer return and didnt even check to make sure it wasnt busted.

There's been a number of posts recently about people receiving mobo's from Newegg that appear to be used. - bozo1 08/30/2003 06:25 PM

Gah!!! Screwed by newegg! :( - Homerboy 02/19/2004 10:08 AM
  • Well I ordered my Barton 2500+ and it arrives.
I got to open it and... hmm... what do I see but some strategically placed tape holding together a surgically cut packaging bubble. JUST enough to slide the little CPU "case" out, check it and replace it.

So I figure "what the hell" and open the sucker regardless of my findings. Plug it into the MB, get into bios and make my adjustments. Upon exiting bios and reboot I get no post, no nothing... just the dreaded "beeps".

    I reset CMOS.
    same thing.

    I remove Battery
    same thing.

I toss in old 1600+ boots up n/p.
    Toss back in 2500+
    Beeps.

    GAH!!!

    RMA.

I just can't believe I got railed by newegg.com I dont even have the heart to write a bad review.

Newegg sending a USED board when buying new? UPDATE: TWICE! - rubenswm 08/23/2003 12:22 PM
  • I got my NF7-S in the mail today. I think they might have sent me a customer return? This doesn't look like a new box at all. there are actually fingerprints on the manual! Anybody had experience with this!?!?!?!?!

    Rubens

UPDATE: I ordered another NF7-S from newegg- $101 shipped overnight (their offer)
    I took it
    I ship my board back
that's fine I guess- this new board better be a NEW one

UPDATE:I got yet ANOTHER used one! This time w/ missing items- and it's dead again! WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE

UPDATE:newegg promised me a call back last week, but never called back. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

    UPDATE: 9/14/03
Still no response! So much for that "Great CS!" I even called to remind them that a supervisor is supposed to call me back..it has been SO LONG!

I ended up purchasing a board from General Nanosystems in Minneapolis, MN. (K7N2-Delta)
The system is working great, their prices are higher than online retailers but the peace of mind and local support is great. They even booted up the board with "test hardware" on site so i KNEW i was taking home a NEW and WORKING board.

UPDATE: 9/16/03- after weeks of no reply- somebody finally saw the thread and got ahold of me. Here is what he wrote.

newegg used mb thread - estew33 11/06/2003 03:12 PM
  • Hi All,
Does anyone know what happened to the newegg mb thread. The one where people were talking about receiving used and defective MB's instead of the new one's they ordered

Newegg.com sells returned/defective stuff!!! - luddy1 09/11/2003 08:57 PM
  • I swear these guys rip you off. I am 3 weeks now and still don't have replacement for my Antec 350W Power supply.

    I ordered an Antec 350SL from these clowns. $45 + $6 s/h.
Great price now I know why.
First unit DOA and looked opened, tape with cardboard stuck to it keeping package inside shut.
    Returned they pd return cost
    Next unit I got today.
Lead to Motherboard actually stuck inside the unit itself! It came out went back in and I could see connector inside with no way to get it out. Package-shrink wrap on outside of box half ripped off and it felt like rewrapped.
    They are paying return shipping.

Basically 3 weeks and still no PSU.
    Out $6 for original S/H.

    Now ordered from buy.com for $51 + $8 S/H. At least buy.com is cool!

Never again am I ordering from newegg.com....be warned.

Does Newegg routinely sell used CPU's?? - mschell 06/07/2003 02:16 AM
  • I just received a 2.4c OEM P4 from Newegg the one that's currently selling for $174.00. Only problem is the CPU looks like a heat sink has been previously attached, there's the telltale square mark on the heat spreader surface, the same mark I've seen on every P4 I've mounted a HS to.
Does Newegg test the processors or did they send me a return/reject/RMA.
I'm kind of PO'ed at this as there's no mention of selling "pre owned" CPU on their site.
The CPU is a Malay SL6WF
    L309A876-101

I suppose i should build the system and see if they sent me a turkey, but by then the 7 day RMA will be up(can't start till Mon or Tus.
Anyone who may have ordered the same CPU please post if your HS has marks on it(or if it didin't)
    Thanks,

I've spent over 5k at newegg and have had NO problems whatsoever, EVER, outside of some refurbs (which is to be expected). I love how fast they ship, and the consistent low prices. Dell has something like a 3 on resellerratings, and to be honest I've had some of the best experiences from dell (including hot deals) so I put more weight in what I myself experience, and what others I KNOW have experienced. Not calling anyone a liar, but newegg has been great to me (even waiving restocking fees on dead items etc which some companies would not.)

They have gotten my dollar in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. :)

Bottom line: IT AIN'T A SIMPLE MISTAKE!

whoa, someone must have peed in someone's Cheerio's this morning. People usually post when something goes wrong. If they fvck up 100 orders/day from 13000, that's still a 99.23076923% of perfect orders which is pretty good IMO. I think Ornery is an Elite Member for elite trolling.

So Ornery, who do you buy computer parts from?

As far as the OP goes, I don't really care to help some dumbass who reads a description of a case and then matches it up against the actual thing after recieving it (and doesn't like how it looks). And then hammers out the dents before persuing an RMA.

I order my parts from Zipzoomfly, NewEgg and Plycon (despite horrible shipping prices) and I get the same level of service from all these places.

People on both sides of this particular fence are agreeing for the most part that your situation is the manufacturer's fault, not Newegg's. You often get what you pay for, and it's not a reseller's fault if a cheap company offering extremely cheap stuff at extremely cheap prices is cheap when packaging their merchandise. I bought a cheapo case in '99 or so when I built my p3 550. The thing had a million and one sharp edges that cut me on a daily basis and the psu died on me. Now I know better (my case brand of choice is now Antec). It wasn't the store's fault for carrying that particular brand case. The difference with Newegg is that any other online reseller might have you pay return shipping and reshipping fees, if they'd exchange it at all - and charge you a restocking fee if you decided against it. Newegg should foot the bill for returning the case and shipping another back to you. Which they'll do with 2-3 day fedex, as opposed to the 1-2 week ground shipping that many other resellers charge more for.

First of all newegg is willing to replace, refund anything to satisfy even the most disgruntled customer.
We are completely spoiled by their more then perfect RMA performance, most vendors have an attitude with customer who are upset and I rather use newegg because they make so much from happy buyers their willing to do things that will please you, bend over backward even if the fault is with the customer who is unhappy with the product... Then again, their are those would spend everything on them and not shop elsewhere, nothing wrong. repeat customer is very good revenue for newegg for such good service!

Its pretty obvious Ornery had a bad experience with NewEgg. He probably fvcked up an order (there are numerous ways such as he probably overclocked the CPU, and newegg refused to replace it (rather than intel or amd), or he ordered wrong parts and got charged restocking fee, or he basically is an idiot and fvcked it up somehow) and now he is trying to bash NewEgg in every possible way.

Its either the above scenario or he is working for a company that NewEgg directly competes with.

There are thousands of members on this forum, who never had any problems with NewEgg. Not just this forum, there are thousands at EOC, HF, FW, and a ton of other forums. Its obvious Ornery is just trolling. Nothing more. Nothing less.
