Victoria is definitely a beautiful place to see, but u have to take a ferry to get there from Vancouver... since u only have 1 day, it might take up too much of your time...

Around Vancouver Stanley Park is nice too, and also the aquarium there... If u want some fun, Robson street in downtown vancouver is definitely a party place!

Goto the suspension bridge. Always a thrill to walk across as quick as you can and scare all the Asian tourists.

Chinese food
Victoria by Ferry
Stanley Park
Whistler if you have a car.

Overnight only is tough, 2 weeks just starts to scratch the surface depending on time of year.

It's a quick drive from Chinatown, grab a chinese newspaper if you want to find all the cheap eats.
Suspension Bridge

I guess you will have time to visit Gas Town and Harbour Center, both I consider tourist traps but still worthy of the hour it kills.

Granville street has most of the clubs/bars. It intersects with Robson street which has most of the trendy shopping. If it's sunny, you can walk down Robson to Denman street, and then down to the beach at English Bay. Great place to relax for a bit. It's not far then to go to Stanley Park. All of the other things suggested are a bit of a travel away if you're only there for one day. Try to make it to a pub if it's a hockey night, and then follow the crowd out when the partying begins :)

1:45 min each way on the ferry ++ waiting, and 45min to 1 hour drive each way will send your traveling time to 8-10 hours. It is worth it to see Victoria if you have more time because the city is a quaint town resemble of old England. And, the ride through the islands is beautiful...sometime you even sees pods of killer whales or dolphins.

One day is not much to spend in Vancouver, because places like Granville Island would easily take up 2-3 hours, and then there are clubs, beaches, parks & valley/canyons that you can kill time at.
