I don't mean to go against what you said, but can you give me an idea of the technical aspect of the cooling system? That question sparked some curiosity within me...

I was referring to reasons why nV may be overdesigning their cooling solution, not the technical aspects of the cooler.

I have some TAS (mod) models of a very similar design and have run them through the TAS computer. These coolers can dissipate some serious power levels!

Cheers!

how much and when is it going to come out?

Inquirer quotes $399... which i find difficult to believe because the current 9800 Pro 256MB is around $440... and supposedly the 9800XT will be bundled with HL2... so that more or less makes the new 256MB flagship card of ATi ~$350-360? 😕 Id be surprised if it does come out at $399. Release date is next week... the 30th @ Alcatraz. 😕

not likely. the 9800 pro isnt even 20% faster than the 9700 pro so i dont expect the 9800 pro XT to be anywhere close to 20% faster than the 9800 pro

The 9800 Pro isn't faster than the 9800 Pro? What has this world come to? 🙂

You mean than the 9700 Pro? By the naming system, if there was a big jump in performance, I'd say it would warrant a new naming system or something because I think the 9800 thing is over. They're putting too many models on the Radeon line.

Back to the topic, remember, that DX9 games like HL2 are GPU bound, sound increases in GPU speed will most likely relate to higher performance.

Looks like I'm still holding off on a new video card.... If the new uber 9800 comes out on the 30th, when can we expect NV38? I'm really gettin tired of waiting.

oops, edited post.

that is pretty cool looking. i wonder why they didn't flip the AGP slot so you can look at coolness like that?

A 9800 with a higher core speed and 256 MB? No way. $500.

I'm going to stick with my original plan to buy a regular 9800 this winter. I'm not willing to shell out the extra cash for a Pro or XT, I just can't justify the performance increase with the price increase.
