Well considering the curb weight of a base C6 Vette is 3200lbs, I'd say the new Vette will come in under 3350lbs. 🙂 From what I understand, GM was targeting 3000lbs for the curb weight on the new C7. And given the C6 Z06 comes in at a little over 3100lbs and GM already stated they shaved 99 lbs just off the C7 chassis alone, 3000lbs should be a pretty realistic target.

2013 C6 curb weight per model

That's why I said at least 😉 I wanted to estimate high to be sure to be correct!

Well, so they said...

There are plenty of street cars that have venting in the hood.

I've personally gotten a bit sick of all the hood scoops, flares, and gills.

What are the rear scoops for??

They are for brakes, transmission and rear diff. The air exits through the vents next to the tail lights. The previous C6 only had it for the rear brakes on the wide body models.

My car (GT500) for one.

Ford GT had them.

Viper has/had them.

Even challenger SRTs have them (though the flow is reversed, and they are tiny, technically they "function" as cooling, but don't provide any downforce like they do on the other examples)
etc.

The current ZL1 has it also so it's not a first for GM. It's a good idea because the older Vettes did not have enough down force and began to float at high speeds. Most of the other examples like the RamAir hoods was for "air induction" and mostly for looks.

Hahaha, with the improved interior, what will people whine about next? 🙂

Pretty sure that was my only complaint with the Corvette. Older models weren't screwed together very well so they tended to turn into rattle boxes over time but I don't hear that as much about the latest models.

this.

seriously

waaaay my 70K sports car that smokes 150k-200K sports cars interior isnt as nice as a 911 turbo or lamboghini

you are doing it wrong

interior is the LEAST IMPORTANT thing in a corvette assuming its functional of course

Don't be naive. The interior is where you spend all of your time while driving. It would drive me nuts staring at all that hard black plastic. Go sit in a $40,000 Lexus and tell me that it isn't important or that GM spent all their money on the engine. Bullshit...

If it doesn't matter then why did GM change it?

The car is a performance car. Have you driven a Lotus? It's been a lame argument against the Vette for a while now just people want something to b!tch about IMHO. It was the best performance car for the money, hands-down.

GM has improved their interiors across the board and it makes sense it would go here as well. It's certainly nice, but I would take the new car with the old interior any day. This is a bonus...

I do agree that the higher-trim Vettes deserved better interiors. Chevy has done a good job in keeping most of the performance items standard for all Vette trims, and the interior will at least now be acceptable in the Z and ZR trims.

I've been checking out Vette's for as long as I can remember, including the current ZR1 & have not been impressed in the least with any of the interiors. At best, they look like they were designed in the late 90's.

All the folks, including me, that are saying the interior of the C7 is a huge improvement, aren't making it up. No way would I have spent that kind of money on such an inferior interior. GM's been stuck in the Stone Age for a long time on interiors. Most folks know this.

After taking it in, there is something I did notice. Why are they so focused on the fuel economy? Its like the Grand Cherokee SRT8 all over again. Its a performance vehicle, and in this case the Vette wasn't even that bad to begin with. Unless people start getting 35mpg I don't get why they're making so much fuss about fuel economy.

I'm also a bit disappointed in the auto transmission. Another car that would be killer with a well done auto (where the manual control would function like a sequential race shifter). Not only that, but a modern 7+ speed dual clutch would have likely made a lot of the extra stuff they did for fuel economy unnecessary, and it would have also helped performance.

The Vette is a pretty decent seller so it has more pressure than other performance cars when it comes to fuel economy. GM is also working on an 8 speed auto which isn't ready yet so they decided to stick with the current auto and enhance it.

It's worth nothing that the other options presented (as well as one that I presented) intake air in to the hood, whereas the new corvette (and most of my examples) exhaust air out the hood.

You know, I was looking at that photo earlier trying to figure out if that was just an optical illusion or reflection in the paint. Why the hell would they put a scoop on the top of the rear fender like that? It just looks goofy, kind of like those fake chrome vents people stick on the front fenders of their Civic.

Really? You couldn't vent the brakes from underneath the car or with a duct on the side in front of the rear wheel?

They moved the ducting from both underneath for the front and the side for the back in the C6R because it did a better job. The change was also needed to allow cooling of the transmission and differential. In one of the videos they explained that moving the coolers to rear of the car not only shifted weight, but also removed the heat transfer that caused issue in the passenger compartment.

You can see the ducting borrowed from the race program in the image below.

Yeah, I get that. Numbers alone they do have to make some effort on fuel economy, but its weird because its like this is a major forefront topic about them talking about the vehicle. They basically said they even gimped performance some to focus on fuel efficiency when they talk about how they could have made it lighter without all the fuel economy aids.

Any other details (like dual clutch or anything or is it one that's going in everything like Chrysler's)?

How do you make something lighter but without fuel economy aids? Genuine question since usually lightness = fuel economy, not adding weight to improve fuel economy.

Edit: Also, wtb a new G8 without the awful Pontiac badging and with the design team that worked on this new 'Vette.

I've always had a thing for Corvettes by the way, but where I currently live, I have ground clearance issues. The Shelby is pretty much the lowest car I can manage here.

I have ground clearance issues at my house too. My driveway is at a pretty steep angle so most sports cars will scrap the bottom when backing out of my driveway. I can hear my C6 scraping every time I take the car out of the garage. But the only part that's scraping is the lower air dam skirt so I don't worry about it since that part is pretty cheap and easy to replace.

I love everything about the car but the rear...it will take some time to grow on me (maybe after I see it in person my opinion will change)

also, I can't wait to see what they do with the c7z06
