first handgun purchase

shot these:
Glock 9mm
Glock .22
HK USP 9mm
Beretta 92F 9mm
Desert Eagle .44
Sig Sauer 228 9mm
Springfield XD 9mm

for accuracy, i liked the glock. the .22 was more accurate but i don't think it will have much stopping power, when compared to the 9mm.
i liked the Beretta but not the long trigger pull.
springfield was nice too.
desert eagle is out of the question since i live in a densely populated area.

usage - home defense, range
any other guns i should try before i buy? definitely leaning towards a 9mm.
.22 would be nice since rounds are cheaper to practice at the range.

9mm is about the the minimum I would consider for home defense.
It is hard to go wrong with Glock, SIG, or HK.

There are more guns you could try but if the prices of the three I mentioned are within your budget...select one of them.

"And, the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point 5 0" written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now . . . fuck off."

I'd go with the DE .50

Don't do it, guns are evil, you'll shoot your eye out, yadda yadda yadda. 🙂

Oh, and a .22 would suck for some defense. You're trying to KILL the home intruder, not piss them off!

Use what Jack uses.

USP Compact/Tactical, depending on the weather?

Jack seems to like HK across the board pretty much, upgrading to their rifles when things get complicated.

Yeah, but Jack can kill terrorists with anything! Give Bauer a shovel, and he'd probably be able to deflect bullets with it like a Jedi does with a light saber 🙂

Silver? what did you pay for yours?

I have the Taurus pt140
It works very well for me. Fits the hand just right. Took awhile for me to get used to the trigger pull, which is a little longer than I would really like.
that is a dime in the photo for size reference.

I really like to shoot the stainless_357.jpg also.
This is a very natural fitting firearm. Also by Taurus.

His first kill of season 6 was made with him chained hands and feet to a chair. :Q

Glock makes a .22lr? 😕

They don't, but there is a 22lr conversion available.

OP, go join some firearm forums and read up a bit more before your first purchase.

ALso, try going to the gun store and holding more of them. The USP P2000 for example, Glock 19, Beretta PX4, Sig P229 and P226 and the Smith and Wesson MP. Also, have you shot any 1911 style models?

Out of my firearms, I always come back to Sig and HK for handguns. I also like my remington 597 22lr rifle and my benelli shotguns.

If you ever fire your gun in your home, the odds are the victim will be someone you know. But target shooting is fun...

Depends on how you will use the gun.

Range?

Home Defense?

Concealed Daily carry? Concealed special occasion carry?

A DE .50 is a great hand cannon, however; not very practical for a daily carry. Definitely not a cheap gun to shoot.

Likewise a target pistol isn't well suited for defense usually.

Yeah, because that's economical to practice with at the range...

Do you have any idea what a box of 50 rounds cost in that caliber? .44 magnum ammo is bad enough (I have a handgun chambered in that round along with a lever action rifle).

don't even have to talk box of ammo with .50 caliber...can talk about cost per clip and it's high 🙂

This came up recently.....50 magnum ammo is about $3 a piece.

You can rent the S&W 500 Magnum at the local shooting range here. It's $15 to rent the gun and $20 for 6 rounds of ammo.

Yes, and most rapists know their attackers.

So if you shoot someone you know in your home, they were probably going to rape you. Crisis averted!😛
