First EVER: Post your Windows 7 desktop!

This is on my laptop. It's not my primary computer. It had Vista on it. I had backed up what was important on it and was going to do a clean install, but there was an option for an upgrade. I went ahead and did it figuring no harm if it turns out badly - just some time lost.

I was very pleased with the results. Every piece of software functions as it should and nothing came up missing or got corrupted. I've had it on it for maybe a month and have no intentions of starting over clean. It runs that well. web pages load much quicker and the whole thing has a quicker feel to it.

I'm very happy with Windows 7.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64, U.K. Theme with slideshow background enabled. Everything is pretty much default. LOVE the UI the way it is.

System Specs:
Phenom II 940 @ 3.0GHz
Gigabyte GA790MA-DS4H
4GB 2x2 DDR2-1066 G.Skill
MSI Radeon 1GB HD4980 OC (880MHz Factory OC)
2x200GB Seagate 7200.7 SATA (Independent drives)
16x Samsung DVD+/-RW (Lightscribe)
Corsair TX850 PSU
Antec P180B

Runs great, and will never go back to Vista or XP.

My copies of Win7 are free thanks to a TechNet Plus and an MSDN sub.

It's built into W7. I'm on the desktop now, but IIRC, it was in the architectural category. I don't know what it is, but it looks pretty cool. It may only be available in Ultimate?

I hadn't checked out the Architectural. It's there, and they have some really nice ones in that category.

What are the specs of your netbook? I'm thinking about moving to w7 on my netbook. Mine has a gig of ram and the standard 1.6ghz atom.

I have XP on my netbook and its fine.
You need to think about all the things you CANT do on a netbook and then you'll realize you dont need Vista or Win 7.

EDIT:
I just realized this is OT, not hardware or software.

My contribution is nil. I hate Vista and when I get 7 I will make it look just like it does now.

I liked it so much I went back to it recently.
Thats LiteStep running the theme, not Windows Blinds or anything else heavy. LiteStep cant do as much but its a little more reliable and far more efficient.

i had a 4870 and was using the RC build and never had any video related problems, i wouldnt be worried about it

Ok, maybe a stupid question here. Is it possible to get more traditional task bar icons? Like the rectangular ones from XP, instead of the square ones everyone is showing?

I keep the taskbar at the top. Just a habit that I stuck with, and I still use objectdock which leaves my desktop nice and clean. The wallpaper is mostly space-scapes that change every minute.

Not really sure what you mean, but you can make them smaller which is closer to XP by rightclicking taskbar->properties->taskbar tab->use small icons tick-box
