Is a Ilink port compatiable with all firewire/1394 devices? I asked a guy at radioshack and he said not neccesarily since sony created it.
Sony did not create it. (Apple did.) Sony just licenced it and named it differently.
The iLink port that you find on Sony laptops is a 4-pin IEEE 1394 Firewire port. 100% compatible.

I'm trying to wait for a FW800+USB2 card. Granted, I don't have a need for either right now.
Well, I just
benched USB 2 vs. USB 1.1 with something as simple (and slow) as a USB thumb drive. It makes a HUGE difference.
256 MB Lexar JumpDrive Sport, with 51650 KB (50.4 MB) file:
USB write: 59 s (0.85 MB/s)
USB read: 48 s (1.1 MB/s)
USB 2.0 write: 8 s (6.3 MB/s)
USB 2.0 read: 6 s (8.4 MB/s)
