You may want to try Opera then.

Oh yeah, I love the tabbed browsing. Other than the fanbois, most people realize it's nothing more than a stable browser.

Haha it's not m$ .. I like that reason the best perhaps.

One of my main reasons is that I'm a web developer and IE is a nightmare for doing pure CSS/XHTML pages. IE has a total disregard for web standards and the CSS spec (or is just plain buggy, however you want to look at it), and I have to implement a variety of IE specific hacks once I have the page working in everything else. Even the current beta of IE7 still has the majority of the bugs present. Although I believe most of the box model issues have been fixed.

So I guess my point is that because of all the time I spend cursing IE when I'm developing it adds even more aversion to me ever using it. Hell, I think I use Opera more than IE.
Just to be fair, IE6 was the most standards compliant browser availible, by far, at the time it was released. MS just hasn't kept up with the changes since then.

You guys can just use a 3rd party popupblocker + SP2 like me and I have gotten 0 spyware since November 2004.

Now, what I'm trying to say is that I don't use FF because of friggn spyware. If you people think FF is godlike cuz of anti-spyware or whatever, that's pretty lame.

I use both IE and FF depending which I feel like opening up.

Tabs are great, but you get the same with tabbed taskbar on IE. I don't remember which CTRL + 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 I need to hit when I have like 8 tabs open on Firefox anyways, so I don't think tabs is all that awesome.

Security - the fact that much spyware targets IE simply because it's the most common - tabs, popup blocker.
Though I am getting annoyed with it hanging for ~15 seconds every time I log into a site... Not sure why it started doing that.

Hahaha is your extension called "middle-click?" n00b.

Anyway, I use it because of tabs, search bar, and all the plugins.

No, Opera is very bloat-heavy. While it does look nice and has some interesting features, it's just too much. Personally I use Maxthon and IE, both of which I find to be better than Firefox. The only instance I can think of where Firefox would be a better choice than IE would be on a computer prone to spyware that's used by a user who doesn't know common procedures to follow to make the computer immune to spyware.

I just loaded up the same page in Opera and in IE. Opera used 26MB of RAM while IE used 29MB. My entire Opera installation folder is only 6MB. Where's the bloat? Are you just referring to the Opera skin "feeling" bloated?

Exactly.

Don't worry, it won't last long. Once you add all the awesome extentions that are available and you're browsing speed progressively slows, you'll know what time it is again. :p

Haha .. has anyone mentioned the adblock extension. It's awesome and if you see the same ads over and over it's awesome at blocking them! As long as you don't use too many extensions you are fine.

People who rave about firefox know the capabilities of it. The average joe might not realize what is so great about it.

1. Adblock.
2. Flashblock.
3. Simplicity.
4. The only difference on any machine is that it's edit->preferences, because of some idiot who loved Netscape.
5. It doesn't need patching every two weeks, and the overwhelming amount of holes found were found and patched before they could be exploited.
6. Half of the OS doesn't use it.
7. It doesn't have that crazy Opera interface.
8. I can easily remove plugins, like Adobe Reader, Quicktime, WMP, etc..
9. Spellbound is nice, too.

My biggest complaint is that they seem to have every other release be great. 1.0.5, I experienced my first crash since a 0.9. It was slower, and a memory hog. Now, at 1.0.6, I don't even have the urge to use a Moox build, and it hasn't crashed once, nor used up all my RAM. All I want now is columns in bookmarks.

I'd switch to Opera, and maybe even pay for it, if they had an interface like FF.

Adblock, tabs and security as already mentioned is enough to switch for me. But I do find the load times slow. Im just glad Im using 100% OSS now.

What's flashblock? Adblock for flash stuff? Cause Adblock can do that.
No, for EVERY flash item. It will show up as a bordered square with a play button. Press the play button, and it does its normal stuff.

That's nice and all. Adblock you can just block. I can see how one can clutter their firefox with extensions. Just get ones that do a lot and not individual ones for little things. Thanks for explaining cerb. I learned something new today!
