No excessive memory usage issues here. But I am using it with ublock origin. Ads seem to be the main culprit when it comes to excessive memory consumption from what I've seen. All in all, an excellent upgrade compared to previous iterations, and brings it up to par with Chrome and Edge. Edge is still a bit faster though, at least on my machine.
 
Neat, ever since 57.0.1 came out, Youtube crashes the tab every time the page finishes loading. 57.0.2...same.
Let's see what 57.0.3 brings.

Amusingly, the page "Youtube website crashing consistently" at Mozilla's site also crashed the tab, but held itself together after I reloaded it.
And the "solution" there is, "Wipe Firefox clean and start over."

I don't have that issue so you might consider going to options-privacy & security then clearing out stored cached web content and site data and see if the behavior stops.
 
57 was, while peppier than earlier version, incompatible with my most needed extensions, so I rolled back to early 56. Yeah, slow, but I'm in no hurry. I'm hoping Edge with mature with some real extensions.
 
I have 57 at work and 52 at home(cause debian stable). I miss some stuff at work, but I'm hoping it gets worked out over time. Biggest is noscript has terrible performance. I've been trying umatrix, but it's a lot more complicated. Barring change, that's probably what I'll go with, but I prefer the old noscript.
 
I got my Firefox 57.0.2 just the way I want it now!

Those out there who think Firefox is slow need to understand something important: it never was intended to be the browser which is the most secure and quickest out of the box, but it is the best browser hands-down for users who know what they need. You don't have to be a programmer to know what makes a browser efficient and secure (I'm not), you just need to do a little research so that you can identify problems, and then spend time searching the enormous library of Firefox addons, which is perfectly organized and very well thought out. Do this, and you will have a browser which will do exactly what you want it to, when you want it to, plus it will be solid as a fortress.

firefox 57(quantum) got me to consider trying to use a more modern primary browser than palemoon. I ended up not liking it enough to switch but in the process I gave waterfox another try and have really fell in love with it. It will remain a pre-quantum FF fork with various mozilla elements disabled. If it's slower than quantum/chrome, I certainly don't notice it for what I do. I agree though, the FF platform is all about customization and options, unfortunately mozilla is slowly losing that philosophy leaving it up to the independent devs to fork the versions of FF we like to keep using. The developers of palemoon also have a version of FF55 they're maintaining called basilisk, but it's still in BETA right now.

One thing I really like about this new Firefox, is that the input lag for typing is really low. It's noticeably lower than Edge's. I think I might just make Firefox my default browser and test it out for a week or so.

The only issues I've had so far with it are that the Google translator didn't work, but that was easily rectified by using another translator. Also, the memory usage is much higher than Chrome's or Edge's, but I have 32GB of RAM in my machine, and I don't have a problem with high RAM usage as long as the browser is actually using it to improve performance and or security.

Right now it's using 1GB with 4 tabs open. I think I am going to open a lot of websites in other tabs and see just how far I can push it. I will report back!

*edit* OK with 20 tabs open, Firefox is using a little over 2GB. So it seems it uses a lot of RAM up until a certain point, then starts to actively reduce memory usage the more tabs you have open.

No problem with that! 😎 Firefox is my new default browser.

I used FF for about half a day until I went back to Edge. FF is just too janky when it comes to scrolling, which I believe is due to the fact that it's still using the old web rendering engine. FF and Chrome feel like they are running at 30 FPS, whereas Edge feels like 60 FPS in terms of scrolling speed and responsiveness.

When FF implements their new web rendering engine, I expect the jank to completely disappear.
 
FF is still my default browser as it works the best for me. If edge and chrome had a windows menu system I might consider using them.

I'm sticking with Vivaldi, the sad thing about FF57 is some extensions that I use don't work, at least with Vivaldi I have had zero crashes and everything just works without worrying about what will and what won't.

Isn't having a choice great?😀 I'd be up in arms if I were forced to use edge.😱😛
 
That's a good news for my Intel laptop. I know that I already asked this before, anybody know DownThemAll alternative? Still can't find the good one for FF57.
 
I updated last evening when I saw it was available and hopefully with the WU CU nothing will get past it. My router scans all traffic so between everything I'm confident.
 
I am ok with the firefox. All plugins i use (no script, adblock and user agent switcher) work about the same, upgrade was smooth.
Alternatives? Chrome is from principle evil,others? Hm
