How do I switch to 64 bit Firefox? I need a link.
I presume I can't just hit the check for updates button in the AboutFirefox dialog, as that would just download the 32 bit version. Nor can I go to mozilla's website and hit "Download Firefox" button. No options there.

OK, I'm disgusted. I downloaded and ran the FF installer app, and it just went straight to install a new version, not letting me choose bit size.

They need to sort the cpu spike and high memory usage of FF55.02, I have like 364mb with only one tab on Firefox opened (Anandtech forums) , Vivaldi on mine with seven tabs opened is only 141mb, the cpu spike on FF does get lower but not as quick as Vivaldi or as low.

Get it from their website, here is the direct link,https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/?q=English (US) both 32 bit and 64 bit links there.

FYI, when you update be sure to always check the data choices to see if they got ticked. They ticked the health one when I updated. I noticed ping(something).exe was running when I exited firefox.

I would not trust Task Manager. I have caught it red-handed lying to me before, it told me IE was using like 300MB of RAM when it was really using 3GB. I think I had to use Process Explorer to find the real amount of memory IE was using.

Since upgrading my check boxes on websites are incredibly small. Anyone else notice this and/or know of a fix? I do use the Theme Font & Size Changer add-on to increase text size...but the boxes stay the same tiny size. They weren't like that before.

Regardless even on latest 55.03 version that I installed today, memory usage etc is lower on Vivaldi and it's also faster in general, Vivaldi is my main browser now for general use. Side Note: The official Tab Mix Plus extension still not working right even with 55.03 ( can't close FF unless you use Task Manager), Tab Mix Plus developers are sure taking their time releasing an official version, however I don't blame FF for this issue. (I always stick with the latest official extensions).

Why does it not update in-place but tell me to download the new version? :confused_old:

Version 55 feels faster. Kinda curious what they did underneath the hood.
The only extension I really need a replacement for is MAF. I wonder why FF hasn't made an option to save to MHT or try to get everyone to agree on a common archive format.

I'm curious too, to see what they did to speed things up and why this didn't come sooner? Perhaps it was a major architectural change like the new web extension model? I guess it is tough to revamp a codebase that has been around for a long time.

Well, they made a lot of ad-ons obsolete. I lost one of mine in the latest update. Might be part of it anyway.

Tabs keep crashing on 55.0.3. Then they all have to reload. Any video/music streaming in non-crashed tabs immediately shuts off. This thread per tab thing is not going well for them.

That isn't normal.
Sound more like a video driver issue than a FF issue. Try turning off hardware acceleration.

FF 55 is still working great for me and seems to handle video heavy pages better than IE 11 does which stutters and freezes often. To be fair chrome also behaves similarly to FF but I hate the interface.
