Firefox 53 Released

They noted that Vista will no longer be supported past 52. Honestly I am surprised they kept it and XP going as long as they did.
 
Something potentially of use that I've checked with regard to XP and Firefox (which no doubt applies to Vista as well) - an older version of Firefox (e.g. pre v52), when it updates it goes to 52 ESR rather than dead-ending and needing a manual ESR install.

How I checked this - I fired up an old XP VM I have which was on Firefox v37, told it to update itself, and after a couple of update routines it ended up on 52 ESR itself. It's currently on 52.1.1 and it states that it's on the ESR update channel.
 
Waterfox 53.0.1, is taking up 10GB of RAM, after an hour, with only a few tabs from ATF, DistroWatch, and Newegg open. WTF???

When it takes up that much RAM, every action, or even moving the mouse over a hyperlink, takes literally like 2-3 seconds to change into the hand to click, with a G4600 desktop Kaby Lake dual-core w/HT CPU, 3.6Ghz, and 16GB of DDR4-2400 RAM, and an M.2 PCI-E 128GB SSD. (One of my ASRock DeskMini units.)

And when I loaded the newest Firefox on my 7" Win8.1 tablet, I got similar issues, with Firefox "not responding". Like it's taking a gargantuan amount of RAM (but on 32-bit - tablet only has 1GB of RAM, but an eMMC SSD).

Seems newest Firefox has a RAM issue / memory leak?

No plugins or add-ons.

Stop using Waterfox.
 
I'll keep my eyes open. Running the latest FF with a couple add-ons and haven't noticed anything crazy yet.
 
I'll try to keep an eye on it too. I did notice that it had a tendency to grow with 5 tabs open but it was a 340mb to 440mb increase over the course of a few minutes. 10gb of ram is outrageous VL.😱
 
If I had to guess, I would say that perhaps, Waterfox is using like 60% or more of physical RAM as a cache size, and then it's caching the video ads that are playing on the AT forum pages. (Yeah, I get video ads. 🙁 )

I mean, I've seen the number jump from 3+GB in Task Manager in Windows 10 64-bit 1703, to like 9+GB, and then up to 10GB, then settling down to 3-4GB again.
 
I've been getting a lot of invalid certificate blockage since the update. No problems before and no problems with the same websites with Chrome.

YouTube videos don't play

Make sure the date and time are correct on that computer. At least that's what I have seen in the past for that issue.

The date and time appear correct. It started after the update. It's on Windows 10, maybe that's the problem.
 
Stange indeed. I had a screen full of tabs today and didn't experience anywhere near the memory usage VL was seeing. I also haven't seen invalid certificates more than once in a blue moon. Are you running any custom certificate settings?

No custom anything. I only have a couple basic add-ons. It kicked out an invalid certificate for google.com, I think it's going into cold storage.
