Try installing the add on: Classic Theme Restorer ... it has many options and I think it will do what you want.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
If you figure out how to make it look normal again with this add-on, please let me know. I use CTR but can't figure out if I can use it to make the address bar look normal again.

I had to laugh, I read a bug report on the Mozilla site asking to revert all the changes made so it looked like before. Or at least put the option in to turn it off in about:config again. One of the developers took offense saying, in effect, that they put a lot of work into it and they aren't going to revert it just because some people don't like it. LOL. They don't bother listening to users anymore, just making changes to make changes because *they* want the changes. Of course it's been that way for how long.

I don't have FF48 installed since some of my add ons won't work with it. Would need to see a screen shot
of what you think is wrong so someone can search for the correct fix (if it can be fixed) ... Try playing with the
Options in Classic Theme Restorer .. there are about 3 tabs with location bar options.

I've got multiple machines with FF 47.0.1 and when I check for new versions they say I have the latest version. Can't figure out why, never seen this happen before.

I've looked at seamonkey and it's too plain and dysfunctional for me. I mean you can't even import your IE or FF bookmarks into it unless you make them html first.

Have a look at Vivaldi, you might be surprised ;).

I've seen the same thing on many different computers. Very strange. Maybe a bug in the update checker? not sure. I just have been resorting to manually upgrading in those cases. Also sometimes version 48 didn't update to 48.0.2. We'll see when 49 is released (I believe next week), to see if it continues to happen.

You know I'm very pleased with the latest updates to FF and it has become stable for me which engenders trust. Back around 42 I saw weird things happen with FF and I had an on again off again relationship with it. I was forced to use it in my university course shell for a couple of semesters when IE refused to behave with some of the online content.

Has anyone who is running Win 10 and using the Add On called Theme Font and Size Changer in FF 48.0. 2 noticed that the icon has disappeared from the front menu bar and if you look for it in the Add On screen you will find it will not reinstall giving an Error ? Or is it just this machine ?

Is there another similar add on which will enlarge the font size of the items on all menus e.g, the bookmarks menu ?

I'm in Win7 and had this issue. The add-on needed to be updated to 48.5. It didn't do it automatically (even though I have it set to update automatically). I did get error messages when updating but just ok'd them and the add-on updated and I'm back to normal.

Wow this is weird but my install of firefox hadn't been updated in more than a year.
When I had it check for an update it said that it was already running the latest version. I had to go download 48 and install it but the install failed. The install then pointed me to a url with a full install media download. I downloaded and ran that but it hung on install twice! I had to delete the entire firefox directory and then kill one of the two firefox install processes in task manager and then it worked for some reason.

Mozilla as an organization is just hopeless. They were years behind chrome and even behind microsoft in responsiveness until now and even a simple install app doesn't work right :/

I've never, not once, had an issue updating Firefox. I avoided upgrading past 21 and still when I updated (I don't know what number, probably like 40ish) it went smooth as always.

Have you looked at palemoon? It's still my preferred firefox based browser

Is e10s active yet in Firefox? I'm running Waterfox 48.0.2, and I'm seeing the CPU usage in Win10 1607 64-bit hit 82% CPU usage, with around 50 tabs open to this forum, and internet radio playing in the background. I do NOT have the NPAPI version of Flash Player installed. (Actually, none of them, except for the IE Flash Player that comes in Win10.)

No I haven't tried it yet. I'm primarily using IE 11 and FF 48 with the occasional use of Edge. With that said FF seems to be the most stable across multiple sites for me right now but I still prefer the IE interface. I was forced onto it when Netscape discontinued development
