If i install the RC will it auto update to Final when it's released? I want to update this for a friend who is not too handy with computers.

Under Tools, Options, Advanced, the Update tab controls how FF checks for and handles updates. RC updates will alert just like any other type of update.

I'd suggest using the "Ask me what to do" option - FF will alert that an update is available, and all he/she has to do then is click to tell FF to install the update and restart the browser when it finishes.

Setting FF to automatically download and install updates will also work, but you take the chance of breaking installed extensions (which he/she might not be able to fix without your help....).

I was wondering if the Final will be delivered like regular firefox updates or if it will require a reinstall. My bad for being unclear in my question, but thanks anways.

Wow, getting insane video card usage. Its really heating them up. Is there any reason to keep hardware acceleration on when you have a fast cpu?

Ugg that's all I need is the fan to spin up on my video card. Easily the most annoying fan in my case. Tempted to try the RC just to see what it does.

I just figured out how to remove the big oranged firefox 4 button.

1. Right-Click any open space around the firefox button and uncheck Menu Bar
2. Install Hide Menu Bar firefox add-on. You can still access menubar with alt.

I thought i never had to use this add-on again when they made it built in in ff 3.x, i guess i was wrong.

I actually kind of like that menu bar.

After using it for a day or so i'm really liking this version.

I have IE9 RC + Chrome 10 installed and Google still wins for pure speed.

All 3 browsers now feel very similar to use.

Seamed fairly random, not much on screen, but I did not keep it on long to find out. It was using about 68% and it was up and down. Run my temps up to 72C or so. I unchecked hardware acceleration in the options, and that got it under control for now. Oh, it was using both cards in my CF setup, so thats a plus I guess lol.

Much faster than other browsers. I like it a lot.

Glad Adobe got Flash cpu usage down to 4 to 10% while playing 1080p Youtube videos. Helps a lot.

here are my temps with 4 tabs open

i would say that the RC maybe the final. have not seen any major issues pop up yet.

I think this RC is very solid. Smooth install, most of my extensions work, and everything seems to be smooth and in place. I like this.

I am running Haf X, thats not a problem. With video acceleration turned on, I would go from idle at 50 on card 1, 32 on card 2, up to 72 and 68C depending on the web page. I top out at 82C while gaming.

to me they seem about equal although certain tests will say chrome is "faster". It's kind of hard to notice it IMO.
I think FF needs a few things like flash sandboxing that chrome has but I think it's getting there!

Any opinions about how ff4 compares to chrome? They seem a lot alike lol

chrome sucks. no page setup. FF is immature. they roached printing completely in b12 and didn't fix it (hello mcfly) until a week or so later. their devs do not see that folks need the speed and the other 11 beta's didn't have that problem.

I have a problem with their system auto-updating without popping a window to say hay man we roached printing in this release. changelog before accepting update would be an easy thing to do

you do know that you can turn automatic update feature off?

man, i just started using chrome side by side with ff 4 rc, and chrome is freaking fast. it just seems like its not as polished as FF yet. another weird observation is that it seems like chrome is much better suited to using a mouse than a trackpad for some odd reason.

Try opening 100 tabs in Chrome and Firefox then you will see which one is faster. If you don't want to try 100 then 50 ok. Opera is my second favorite over Firefox. Once they follow Internet Explorer, like Chrome did with seperate processes for each tab. Nothing will stop Firefox from having unstoppable user growth.

Comparing Chrome speed wise on my friends pc compared to mine I felt chrome lagged at times. It was just as fast as Firefox though. This was Chrome 10 the latest version on his pc.
