here is link for it http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-4.0rc1&os=win〈=en-US
  • RC1 will be published to the beta audience as soon as QA signs off on it (today or tomorrow, most likely)
  • so far, no showstoppers have been found, and no need for an RC2 has been identified
  • QA has requested more time for thorough testing, so expect at least 1-2 more weeks before final ship
  • please note that as of tomorrow desktop nightly builds will no longer be identical to RC1 and in fact will contain code that is not planned on being part of Firefox 4 for Windows, Mac or Linux

What’s New in this Firefox 4 RC

As well as these features from previous Firefox 4 Betas:

  • Firefox 4 RC is available in 79 languages
  • Support for the proposed Do Not Track ("DNT") header
  • Connection status messages are now shown in a small overlay
  • WebGL is enabled on all platforms, but, like for other hardware acceleration features, many buggy drivers or driver versions are blocked
  • The default homepage design has been refreshed
  • Firefox no longer switches into offline mode automatically
  • Overhaul of the bookmarks and history code, enabling faster bookmarking and startup performance
  • Per-compartment garbage collection is now enabled, reducing work done during complex animations
  • The Firefox Sync setup experience has been greatly improved across desktop and mobile devices
  • Additional polish for the Firefox Add-ons Manager
  • Uses JägerMonkey, a new, faster JavaScript engine
  • Certain rendering operations are now hardware-accelerated using Direct3D 9 on Windows XP, Direct3D 10 on Windows Vista and 7, and OpenGL on Mac OS X
  • Improved web typography using OpenType with support for ligatures, kerning and font variants
  • HTML5 Forms API makes web based forms easier to implement and validate
  • Support for the new proposed Audio Data API
  • Direct2D Hardware Acceleration is now on by default for Windows 7 users
  • Firefox button has a new look for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users
  • Support for HSTS security protocol allowing sites to insist that they only be loaded over SSL
  • Firefox Sync is now included by default
  • A new feature gives users a visual overview of all open tabs, allowing them to be sorted and grouped
  • An experimental API is included to provide more efficient Javascript animations
  • Firefox now supports the HTML5 video "buffered" property
  • Tabs are now on top by default on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • You can turn any tab into an "App Tab" by right-clicking on it and selecting "Make into App Tab" from the context menu
  • Web developers can animate content using CSS Transitions
  • Responsiveness and scrolling improvements from the new retained layers layout system
  • JavaScript speed improvements due to engine optimizations
  • Changes to how XPCOM components are registered in order to help startup time and process separation
  • You can search for and switch to already open tabs in the Smart Location Bar
  • New Addons Manager and extension management API (UI will be changed before final release)
  • Significant API improvements are available for JS-ctypes, a foreign function interface for extensions
  • The stop and reload buttons have been merged into a single button on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • The Bookmarks Toolbar has been replaced with a Bookmarks Button by default (you can switch it back if you'd like)
  • Crash protection for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins
  • CSS Transitions are partially supported
  • Full WebGL support is included
  • Core Animation rendering model for plugins on Mac OS X. Plugins which also support this rendering model can now draw faster and more efficiently
  • Native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format
  • Web developers can update the URL field without reloading the page using HTML History APIs
  • More responsive page rendering using lazy frame construction
  • Link history lookup is done asynchronously to provide better responsiveness during pageload
  • CSS :visited selectors have been changed to block websites from being able to check a user's browsing history
  • New HTML5 parser
  • Support for more HTML5 form controls
  • Web authors can now get touch events from Firefox users on Windows 7 machines
  • A new way of representing values in JavaScript that allows Firefox to execute heavy, numeric code (used for things like graphics and animations) more efficiently

Does the old version of Forecast Fox 0.9.10.2 work in Firefox 4 ? ?
A lot of people do not like Forecast Fox 2.x

What's wrong with it? They added features, and you change the settings via html page, but otherwise it's identical to the older versions.

First you can not get like a 7 day forecast. You can with the old. Other features not as good either. Read the reviews and see how hate V2 .. And quite frankly, why in hell would I want/need to go to a web page to change an option that should be local ? Like that other POS Adobe Flash where the settings are Web based .. piece of garbage.

Meh... I set it once and forget it. The weathermen are lucky to get the next day's weather right, much less 7 days in advance. It goes up to 4, and that's 1 more than I use. It works for me.

My FF 4.0 beta just auto-updated to Beta12.

Now the window border on the left and right side, there's a highlight partway down (in Win7), and it keeps randomly shifting up and down as I browse. It's very distracting!

More strangeness, on two computers, one running Win7 HP 64-bit SP1, the other running Win7 HP 32-bit SP1, after the FF4.0beta12 update, it left an icon pinned to the taskbar, for Firefox 4beta10. Strange. It did that on it's own, I've never pinned Firefox to the taskbar.

What problems are you having with Hotmail? I'm running Beta 12 and have no problems accessing or using Hotmail.

It reloads the adds/banners multiple times a second making the website unuseable and completely unresponsive. Also everytime you delete a e-mail(which you have about 3 seconds to do before the reload loop of death starts) it takes you to the trash folder automatically and doesnt let you change folders out of it. Even flashblocker does not stop this even though they are flash adds and flashblocker works on all other websites.

It is a HTML5 issue as turning off HTML5 solves the problem and is what mozzila has on there website as a fix which is laughable, sure just disable one of the main upgrades of version 4 and you will be fine, what a joke. Its actually so bad that there is now a plug-in for firefox 4 to disable/enable html5 with a button on the browser beside the address bar. Maybe if you cant program html5 properly you should either hire someone who can or leave that out as a feature.

I have switched over to opera now and will stay till firefox hires some people who can program html5 code properly but at this point im thinking they are going to continue to ignore the problem. So i will have to switch all my boxes over to opera, oh well its faster anyways.

Do you know what "beta", "release candidate", and "pointless rant" means?

Any idea when this is going to be released? Not a fan of testing buggy software.

i wouldn't be afraid of the later builds. they are pretty stable, at least to me anyhow. :D the way they are taking their time i would say April would be my guess.

I uninstalled Firefox from my Linux boxes, and have been running Minefield full time. On my Vista box Firefox 4 is my default browser.
