Visual Studio 2005 uses 1/5th of that RAM

What is the single window/tab ? If it makes you feel any better I can easily get Firefox to use up to 800 to 900 MB of memory in 5 minutes.

haha. maybe it's by design - reserve as much memory as available, and then release it if the OS needs it... My single site is craigslist.

Well firefox isn't the only browser that takes up a lot of memory. They just don't seem to bog down the system after a while like firefox can.

So far firefox has been doing pretty well here though left it on last night when it using 778 MB of ram and now it is only at 789 MB of ram used. It is starting to get a little laggy though when typing and scrolling. My system has 8 GB of ram though. I know if I restart firefox the laggy typing and scrolling will go away for a little while. This is with 10 tabs open at the moment.

Firefox on my AMD and Intel systems has serious rendering issues with Youtube and Facebook. I am using ieTab to get around those issues but sure is annoying when I stumble into other sites that don't render correctly. Chrome is now my primary.

edit: embedded youtube videos will not play at all. Win 7 RC1 64bit, anyone solved this one?

Perhaps its an issue with your video drivers or Win 7 RC? I haven't ever seen that problem on vista or XP.

YouTube works on my daughter's machine. She has Win7-32.

Youtube works fine on my 64bit Win7 RC1 Intel system as well, it always did. Can you give us a site that you have issues with, deputc26?

Works fine here.

The only strange thing I noticed about firefox is on one computer it has no memory leak issues, that I can see, even with the same add ons installed but on the other more powerful pc it does. Both have intel processors.

Well looks like I actually fixed my firefox memory leak problem on my other pc! Surprised that was the problem too. I do remember reading about it but forgot to try it. Amazed it actually worked. Wasn't any of my addons either. Still not convinced though. I will give it a week then I will believe I actually fixed it. If by a month I still don't have any problems then I will be satisfied I fixed it. Hoping for the best!

Youtube itself, any site with embedded youtube videos, facebook; Intel system, Interesting that others don't have this problem I tried disabling add-ons to no avail.

ff 3.52 in vista32 crashed last night for me. I was dragging and dropping the url icon. This is the first time a browser has crashed for me in years.

I hope mozilla gets it together soon. It'd be a shame to see all of their innovations be wasted.

I have some really weird issue with youtube + Firefox + some online forums

when I go to the next page of a topic, it causes CPU % for Firefox to go to 0% for a couple seconds resulting in the youtube video to also stutter for a couple seconds

this doesn't happen to me when browsing all forums. Anandtech forums work fine and don't have the stutter.

this seems to only happen when loading in a new page on some forum. previously loaded pages don't cause stutter. IE doesn't have this issue.

guess I'll just watch youtube vids on IE and browse with FF for now

I've had about 4 crashes since I switched to FF3.5. It never crashed before, and I've been using it since v0.7. I have 1 new addon that I didn't use before(Stylish), but I don't want to disable it yet, as it makes these forums dark which I like. So far the crashes aren't bad enough to worry about.

I've noticed ff being slow just adding a bookmark. Using the keyboard to move to the desired folder in the list box requires me to type slowly in order for ff to catch up. Pretty lame. Maybe I'll have to upgrade my 286 pc. You know how processor intensive scrolling a list box can be...

I doubt it's the OC. I only started having problems at v3.5, and it might have only been after adding the Stylish addon, I can't quite remember. I'm Prime95 stable, and no other apps, games included crash.

you could be right, it's also causing BSOD's I'm done using it.

you have hardware issues if you get bsods.

Just in case you missed this.😛 If you are overclocking, then you need to set everything back to stock for a week or so, and see if your problems go away.

You should also remove you current version of flashplayer using the Uninstaller, and then install the latest version.

The 100 tabs you have open does any of them have flash content or do you always have flashblock enabled?

I suspect my my crashes may be due to Flash, but they haven't been frequent enough to pin it down.

Do other up-to-date browsers perform any better?

IIRC, of all the modern browsers (IE8, Opera 10, Google Chrome, Firefox 3.5), Firefox 3.5 is the slimmest when it comes to memory usage, but they're all hogs.

Anyhow, Firefox 3.5 isn't perfect, but it seems better to me than the older versions.
That said, I am almost an exclusive Chrome user right now. I like Firefox better, but the performance of Chrome is so much better (firefox really slows down with a few windows open with active web content, particularly flash) that I use it on my Vista desktop and my Ubuntu laptop.
On Linux on my desktop (with ext4) I use Firefox, but only because that's the only time performance is acceptable. Firefox writes to the hard drive every 5 seconds (temporary internet files and logs and such) and I think this kills performance across all platforms.

i do have flashblock enabled.
on the other hand, it still uses 500mb.
but still yes, no crap flash.

use flashblock and disable your other addons.😛
if it still happens, i dunno, i'd still say your oc is suspect. prime95 is stressful, but it doesn't use everything.

Well there you go then. I dare you to open 100 tabs all with flash. You can still have flashblock installed but there must be some active playing flash on each tab.
