Admittedly the Enfield is a hell of a rifle.

you know, the only sad thing is that what if all these people buy up guns because they are ascared of obama coming into office and

a. nothing changes
b. there is a turn in program, where registered owners have to turn in their offending weapons.
c. zombies. then we'll be lucky all these homegrown militias courtin their ar-15's can come to the rescue in semi auto grandeur.

Because ANY true HK firearm costs a bloody arm and a leg to acquire. Theres clones ranging from "the real thing" to "meh, this is gonna take some unfucking to work". I would get a JLD PTR clone in a new york minute. But, the chambers are fluted which are hell on brass so I've been leery of getting one because I reload and those chambers really chew up the brass. I decided to go with an MP5 clone which unfortunately ranks down around "this is going to take some unfucking to work right". I'm hoping my rifle is one of those that runs well right out of the box, but I am prepared to do some work on it if need be.

Point is HK stuff is pricey, picky and difficult to find.

Without reading through the whole thing ...

I used to live in NYS and I am a self-professed gun nut. Here's the deal outside of NYC ...

rifles and shotguns .. for typical hunting guns, no problems at all. go to a gun shop and buy one.

"assault" rifles .. still quite legal as long as they were manufactured before 1994 when the AWB (assault weapons ban) went into effect. NYS has their own state-wide AWB, so when the federal one sunset in 2004, all of the old rules still applied in NYS. That means you can't have any accessories that Dianne Feinstein finds "scary" like flash supressors and collapsible stocks. read up on the rules. overall, pretty simple to follow. the AWB only applies to assault rifles manufactured after 1994.

pistols .. you need to have a permit just to touch one. NYS is not a "shall issue" state, so you have to come up with a good reason (or know someone) to get a carry permit. ownership permits aren't as hard to come by. it's a somewhat long and cumbersome process that involves alot of paperwork and several hundred dollars.
