Well sat night had to go to the hospital at 2am, foot was the size of a football and I could not even touch it to the ground it hurt so bad.

they said I was having a sever localized allergic reaction, they gave me a shot of steroids and benadryl then sent me home will a prescriptions of antibiotics and steroids.

This was strange because it was the third time in three months I have been bit on the foot, but the other times I had no reaction. Although it did hurt.

Oh well

hmm... what are some interesting ways to kill large amounts of ants? anyone? 🙂

edit: by interesting i mean fun and perhaps inhumane (but they are ants so who cares right?)

gasoline?
I know it's not practical, but why not boiling hot water ? Dump it straight in there... no?

rh71, boiling hot water does a good job on ants. Never had a fire ant problem but there used to be some carpenter ant hills around the swimming pool and there'd be a steady stream of ants walking across the walkway. A couple boiling water treatments and the problem disappeared.

You can also buy this stuff called "Sevin." It's a white powder and almost any bug that walks across it dies damn near instantly. We used to outline the patio with it to keep bugs away. Also good for the garden. Only down side is you have to reapply it after it rains.

Are there multiple kinds of fire ants? The kind I'm thinking of will kill you if you they bite you enough.

There are two types in the south, Solenopsus invicta, and Solenopsus geminata. invicta comes from South America, geminata is native. The import of invicta is an ecological disaters becuase they are threatening genimata, which aren't nearly as aggressive.

Just in case you wanted to know.

my 9 year old daughter had her first encounter with fire ants last nov. We went down to Texas to visit my parents and i pointed out to her what a fire ant mound looks like and to stay away from it if you find one. Also to pay attention to where you are standing.

well 2 days later she wasnt paying attention to where she was standing and got stung about 12 times on her legs. she now has a healthy respect for the little bastards, she didnt before because Colorado doesnt have any and she has never experience the pain of a fire ant sting before...

First time you get stung, body says WTF?
Second time, body developes anitbodies against it.
Third time, body releases the antibodies.

This is how it works if I remember correctly. That is why people that get stung by a bee will not get an anaphylactic reaction the first time, they need to develope the igE antibodies first.

...if I remember the stages right...

I believe so Paramedic. Don't know about the 1. WTF though. Got stung by a bee on the neck and two weeks later by one on the arm. The one oin the arm started itching and the one on my neck almost closed my windpipe from the swelling. Another sting on the foot years later also produced massive swelling. Some people just up and die the first time though.

Whenever I get stung by an ant or a bee, I ALWAYS make sure to google the subject afterwards and post pictures on random topics where people were slightly discussing the topic from 15 years ago...
and he probably didn't realize how old the thread was.

This happens every now and then.

Still - who feels the need to register on a forum and then post a picture on it?

I get a damn ant bite every week in fucking TX.

But still - when you get stung or bit by something, do you say "Ooooohhhh I better post about this - but not on Social media... How about... a random forum!"
