I got stung on the foot this morning by about 8 of the little bastards.

Now its hard to walk, hurts like a mofo the whole foot not just the area of the bites.

Just moved to TX and have never had to deal with them. They are very aggressive.

if you hired a pest control to spray your house once a month, that's part of their job. if not, ask them for advice. the guy who sprays our house gave me a bottle of that thingy they use for ant hills. I've got 2 kids who love outdoors that's why i always check/clean our yard most of the time.

Sorry to hear what happened! 🙁

I was not home when they got me, but their are 3 of their ant hills in my back yard.

They will ALL be dead in the morning.😀 and thats a fact.

Good. I hate ants. Sorry you got stung by them. In Washington, there aren't too many ants of any kind around.

Damn ,I've never had that kind of reaction to fire ants. I have them all over here in FL, and once I got stung by 32 of them (counted the puss pimples from their bites on both feet). Yea, it hurt like a bitch at first, but after an hour it felt like nothing happened at all. No swelling or anything.

Now, I also have fallen into a pile a leaf-cutting ants knee first when I lived in Panama - I still have scars on my knee where they cut my flesh (they're about the size of a dime) 😉

hmm... what are some interesting ways to kill large amounts of ants? anyone? 🙂

edit: by interesting i mean fun and perhaps inhumane (but they are ants so who cares right?)

gasoline?

When I was little I lived in SC and had to deal with fire ants. I will never forget seeing them attack a little boy. He sat down on a brick wall and apparently there was a nest nearby. He got swarmed and started screaming. His parents responded to his shrieks and had to strip him down before running him inside and dumping him in the shower. Turns out he was covered, they were in his hair, ears, nose, mouth. :Q

OMG, that's horrible just to imagine 🙁

Bah, I used to study them when I worked for the USDA. Trying to contain those little buggers in order to run experiments on them was a total PITA! I used to get stung about 20-50 times a day.

what about tnt? hairspray+lighter? what about liquid nitrogen? but defenitly don't use toxic waste. they'll grow and will take over the world

Down here in Florida, the little pyros (me and my friends) would come around to any anthill of fire ants and use our own "TwoStep Treatment", mainly of fireworks and, when we could sneak it, some gasoline. We never knew if it worked completely, but the mound was empty for a while, and it was a lot more fun than applying Andro. Now we're too busy thinking about cars and girlfriends. *sigh* I miss those days.

I remember when I was little in Texas, I stepped on a fire ant hill. Being so small, I got bit enough that my whole body (including my face) started swelling up and I nearly passed out, they had to take me to the ER. One of my earliest memories, and it's not a fond one...

Are there multiple kinds of fire ants? The kind I'm thinking of will kill you if you they bite you enough.
