I tool live on Long Island but I live in Suffolk (Long Island is split almost down the middle, Nassau on left, Suffolk on right) at or around the middle part of the Island.

Apparently OON has "upgraded their lines" so that I get 15/2 for no extra cost 😀 . I have yet to see my connection hit that. Last night it was 7/1 but thats probably because the are throttling my bandwith (because I play CS:S too much).

Where in Suffolk?

I used to live in Rocky Point.

bah cablevision. If and only if there are no capping issues even with "the ability to run servers" then I will go back to them. They still have not admitted to capping publicly. :|

Cablevision/Optonline is now offering FIOS in my area, in Nassau County in Long Island. They seem to have beat Verizon.

30Mbps down and 2Mbps up for an additional $14 a month, you also get some other little goodies like being able to run a server.
But also current users of the normal Optonline got bumped up to 15Mbps and 2Mbps, but I think you need a new cable modem.

What I don?t understand is that FIOS is fiber optic cable and I thought they had to change the cable line for that? They don?t say anything about that only that it?s ready to go.

Anyways, it looks like all I need is a new Cable Modem to get the new 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up and if I want I could get the 30Mbps for a little bit more $$.

Its 30/5 (the plan I have) and get it now!!!!
can you tell me if they're watching you with speeds or can you run that 24/7 at full throttle ? When I had 10/1, I was capped 4 different times because I couldn't run 1Mbps upload at full throttle for more than an hour. They capped me even after following their guidelines on how to avoid this "nonexistant" cap.

I don't care about the 1Mbps so much if I could even run 512Kbps for unlimited time. I don't want to have to watch it anymore... like on Verizon DSL.

Yup, thats what happened to me. I called them up for something else and said they were capping my bandwith. Then they gave me a speech on how it's not to be used as a sever and other junk like that. Then they uncapped it and I then I somehow got my self capped again. I have yet to call them about it.

To add to that, I was prbablly capped becasue I was hosting a CS game for a couple of hours. I was playing in it, but still I guess they didn't like that.

I'm living in w.mass, no chance we are getting that stuff anytime soon. *sigh*

Well you guys realize a lot of the suburbs have gotten it already along with newton? I have a feeling it will never hit boston for at least 5 years, so I will be considering if Fios is available the next time I move.

I going to get a new Modem tomorrow from OOL. Right now i have 5mbps down and 200kbps up... Hopefully the new modem will help me out.

Anyways my speed jumped to 8mbps down and 2mbps up.

to the OP: it's not really called FIOS that cablevision is offering, it's QAM 256 (15 down) or DOCSIS 2.0 (30 down) service

mmmm. I'm not an expert but everyone on the DSL reports seems to refer to it as FIOS.

Here is the statement from cablevision
link

They mention "Services Delivered Through Cablevision's High Capacity Fiber Network"
