So I connected everything in the case, and my back feels like it's going to explode after craning into every corner trying to find everything. Finally, after 10 hours, mostly standing and craning, I set up my monitor, the Acer XB270B I think (the IPS/1440p/144hz one. It was the only IPS/120hz I could find for intel), and was ready for the moment of victory... and the cord in the box won't connect to the computer.

It's supposed to use display port, but the cord it came with looks almost like an ethernet cord on one side, and then it's just a plain USB on the other side. So actually it does connect to the computer, but I have no idea what for. It's supposed to use display port.

Am I missing something? Don't TVs and monitors usually come with one HDMI or Displayport, whatever it needs to connect? Or was it supposed to come with my motherboard or PSU or case? I have a bunch of cords but none are displayport.

Please advise!

That sounds a lot like a data cord for an APC UPS. Here's an example of what they look like.

They don't necessarily come with cables for every connector; however, if the monitor is designed for a specific capability (e.g. high refresh rate), it will normally come with a cable to support it. DisplayPort cables look a lot like HDMI cables, but the connector is flat on one side and it has "fangs" that hold the connector in.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the Acer XB270HA? At least according to the photos on Newegg, it should come with a power cable (standard 3-prong that a lot of non-mini PC components use), DisplayPort cable, and a USB 3.0 B-to-A cable.

EDIT:

My advice: Post this in General Hardware or Displays, not PC Gaming.
