jst curious, what was the buyer's feedback rating?

Don't forget that someone could have stolen the buyer's account information. The real scammer could be the person in Milwaukee, with the person in Florida unaware of what's going on.

I didn't know that you COULD reroute packages that were in the mail. Especially to a completely different state. I wonder how they did it? Surely email isn't valid, and surely you have to provide the tracking # or somesuch to prove that it's "yours".

So many ways that could go wrong...

Fedex lady says someone called in, but didn't put a phone number on file

In other words as long as I have a tracking number I can call and reroute any package I so desire with no verification as to who I am? That's stupid.

Great, so UPS smashes stuff, Fedex listens to anybody to reroute stuff, USPS looses stuff - anyone GOOD out there?!

All a buyer (scammer) needs to reroute a package is the tracking #.
Does that apply to other carriers as well?

I'm pretty sure this also applies for UPS and DHL.

I'm not sure about USPS, though.

I don't know about USPS, but UPS will not reroute the package until at least one delivery attempt.

Nobody is perfect 🙁 This situation pretty much makes it clear that I will never use FedEx again.

Be funny if it was a father buying a laptop for a kid in college or something. Then again better safe than sorry.

I will contact the seller tomorrow after I get confirmation that is on its way back to me and find out. Everything points to a "no" on that theory, but that would suck. 😉

AFAIK UPS is the same when it comes to rerouting stuff. I have had to change the destination of a package I sent while it was in transit and all they asked me was if I was the one that shipped or if I was the one that was receiving. There was no verification of my identity.

Did you ask them to re-route it back to you?

Yep, on it's way back to me starting tomorrow.

Will you be returning the money as soon as it arrives?

Of course, minus the shipping charge fedex is charging me to get it back to me. I then will file an unpaid with ebay and neg the buyer.

🙁

That's why I use USPS mostly. I havn't had many problems with them...maybe less then half a dozen. That is pretty good when I've probably shipped well over a 1000 packages in the last couple years.

get re routed address + pwn them with legal + police action.

Got the re routed address.

Call the Millwaukie PD and let them know that there is a thief at that address and explain to them what happened.

He doesn't know if that was going to happen or not. There could be a rational explanation although the buyer had no right to change the destination of the package.

What the buyer did was fraud. He impersonated the OP to have the laptop re-routed.
That right there is enough to make him a criminal.

I like that places will re-route packages. I had things shipped signature required to my home address and once I find that a signature is required I would rather have it sent to work.

Recently I had something sent to a saved address in quick checkout that was to my old employer. They diverted the package so I could pick it up at the UPS station. I can understand the fraud potential, but it also has valid reasons for use.
