Sold a laptop on ebay, a $1500 laptop at that. PPed immediately, confirmed address, everything looks smooth so I ship. Look up the tracking on Fedex and it says "incorrect address". So I give Fedex a call and someone rerouted the lappy that was going to FL, to go to Milwaukee. Fedex says it was me who called up and rerouted. So...the laptop is somewhere in FL, but on its way to WI and I must stop it!

lmao, pretty sure the package would be in the air. Even if it was on the ground, I think the Fedex guy would make it to WI before me. I live in SoCal. :(

I didn't know that you COULD reroute packages that were in the mail. Especially to a completely different state. I wonder how they did it? Surely email isn't valid, and surely you have to provide the tracking # or somesuch to prove that it's "yours".

So many ways that could go wrong...

Since I'm sure you insured it and Fedex is obviously at fault here, you should be fine.

Wow that sucks...call FedEx and make sure they just return the lappy and file a claim with PP immediately.

Agreed....I had a similar issue a year ago and requested they return the package to me ASAP. They were able to do this and I got my item back ($4000+ value) safe and sound.

I take it you gave that person the tracking number?
I've re-routed packages before, but only couple miles away, not to a different state.

i dont understand. did the person pay you before you shipped?
that's the #1 rule.

if so, why would you care where it went?

i'm sure you've heard of payments declining later on when the credit card is reported stolen...

Address linked to person's payment method doesn't exist?

Paypal just about always sides with the buyer of ebay transactions. This unfortunately lets scum of the earth scammers win sometimes. I am only protected if I ship to a confirmed address. I ship to said confirmed address, but then the package is re-routed to an unconfirmed address..im SOL. Buyer received lappy, but says he/she never got it. Paypal says, "did you ship to a confirmed address?" "No? ok, give us back that money." Im out the laptop and my money. Obviously that money isn't in my pp account anymore or even in the bank account my PP account is linked to, but then they pull the money anyways and try to send it to a collection agency. Your paypal account then has a negative balance, your pp account and ebay account are suspended until paid in full. It's basically a big ass *&%# with no lube.

All a buyer (scammer) needs to reroute a package is the tracking #.

If a scammer pays for an item via PayPal with a confirmed address, then reroutes the package, he could file a PayPal claim and win it. PayPal would ask the seller for a tracking number, and since the tracking number would indicate that the package was delivered to an unconfirmed address, the seller would be SOL.

edit: OP beat me to it, one post above

This is why I don't give buyers tracking #s. If they want tracking information, I'll send them a screenshot of the tracking information.

OH YES! You have been screwed-didly to the MAX! Someone hijacked a Florida account and rerouted your package to their address. Happy trails, partnur.

PS>get the phone number for the confirmed address and see if they bought your laptop.

Does that apply to other carriers as well?

I'm pretty sure this also applies for UPS and DHL.

I'm not sure about USPS, though.
