why don't people play games on htpc's. I can only imagine Doom 3 on a 8.5 foot screen.

That's a fantastic setup, MichaelD. You obviously put a lot of thought and work into designing and building it. I never really cared about having a nice setup, but yours is giving me second thoughts.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to sell the wife on the idea. :music::wine:

Thank you. :) I am a real HT fanatic; I calibrate to NTSC standards. I use the AVIA HT DVD to calibrate.

When you go to the movie theater, do they have the lights on when the movie is playing? Nope. That's exactly the way a HT is supposed to be. Therefore, I am calibrated to a very darkened (not pitch black...imagine a nightlight on in the room) room.

During the day, a good bit of ambient light comes in thru the closed blinds on the patio door, but it still looks decent. It's watchable during the day.

At night though...man, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner.

The PJ + materials for the screen (not including my time!) was less than $2K. A good 60" RPTV is more than that. I have a 90-inch screen.

I am soooo jealous.... my 15" LCD screen is looking smaller and smaller every day :(

It literally took me about six hours to make the screen...and my fingers were all fcked-up b/c I had to stretch the material...and I shot a few staples thru my fingers.

I can say that I literally put Blood, Sweat and Tears into this. :D

Very, very nice. Where did you get your plans for your shelves and such you built on your own?

Too bad youu can't get your center speaker more in line with the L and R. It would sound better. But I like it.
EDIT
I use the same mouse pad.
:)

No plans. Lots of measuring, sketching (I can't draw for crap...more like little line drawings) and imagining in my head. It's interesting that I can't do math, but I can "see things" before I build them.

What were your materials for the equipment rack? Rough cost estimate?

That just reminded me of one I've seen in maximum PC. The guy turned an old Marantz receiver into the PC. It was sharp.

Not including my time or the tools (table saw, drill press, bits, sandpaper) about $120.

YGPM.

Have you played games on this thing? Imagine the in-car view for racing games on a screen that size. Holy sh!t. Same with FPS. Personally, I would puke.

Google Flexy Rack. there is a ton of plans out there for them.

Nice basic setup you got there MichaelD. The Infocus rocks for the price.

Anything with fast movement isnt very good on a HTPC (maily due to the low refresh rate)..... I got some game/screen caps of my theater in my sig, slower paced games look/play awesome in my theater.
