Finally the 5830 is comming Jan 25 (updated)

I actually think the external graphics card box is pretty interesting. Thanks for the link.

Actually that was a mistake. Thats for a notebook right?

Or does that mean it will be comming for desktops also?

They could just make a 5830 have the exact same specs as a 4890 except on the new core so that it has better power consumption and DX11. That would be nice, and satisfy those not happy with 5770 performance.

We know they're coming... the only problem is, when? The link you provided doesn't provide any information regarding any of these GPUs, and isn't really useful at all. Since no one has leaked ANY information regarding any possible 5830/5790, then I'd venture a guess and say it won't be coming for another month or two... or three... or maybe they are waiting until Fermi is out to release a dual attack of value-minded midrange cards and dual-GPU cards.

How is the 5830 suppose to fit in all this? Wouldn't that screw over the 57xx series?
obviously there needs to be something in between. the 5770 just doesnt get the job done at times especially in min framerates and the 5850 is too big of a jump in price.

A $200 - $230 price point probably wouldn't be bad for something on par or a lil faster than an HD 4890 with lower power consumption and newer feature set.

That puts enough of a gap between the 5770 and the 5850 to allow it to be on its own without stealing sales from the 5770's or the 5850.

It's also a jump in power consumption, needing two 6pin connectors.

I imagine the HD 5830 might be stalled until Nvidia releases something, so they can make it competitive performance and price-wise.

Just like the 5850 is a 5870 with 10% taken off the top of almost everything, the 5830 would do well to simply be 10% less than the 5850.

1280 SP, 64 TMU, 650 Mhz Core Clock @ $200 would make it a surefire hit.

I'm guessing we'll end up with something like...

5870 - >$350
5850 - >$250
5830 - >$200
5770 - >$150
5750 - >$100

Thinking about more, I take it ATI goal is to completely saturate the market and make sure there's no niche nVidia can fill.

IF ATI releases HD5830 for $200 I think we will start to see more realistic pricing on HD57xx.

1280 or even 1120 stream processors on a 256 bit bus would be a big improvement over the current 128 bit midrange offerings.
