The beginning and middle were great. Closer to the ending the movie took a nose dive and crashed!!!

I'll explain it to you... One day, they started making an expensive movie with not much of a story line.. After spending a lot of time making this movie, they decided to just eliminate the story line.

This is what you call a crappy movie..

I've never before seen a movie that put such gloomy looks on peoples' faces when they were walking out of the theatre.

I thought it was a great movie. The best that I've seen a long while. What's not to get about the story? Denzel was a bad cop that was trying to convince Ethan Hawke that it was acceptable to do the things that he did in order to do the job. All this while he was really setting Ethan Hawke up because he was a naive cop out on his "Training Day".

What was wrong with the story? I thought it was very interesting. Haven't you ever gone along with something thinking it was the necessary thing to do only to find out that it was the wrong thing to do later? Ethan Hawke's character was the naive rookie looking to please the guy training him and Denzel's character totally used that and manipulated the crap out of him to set him up to take a fall for the crap that was was into.

Anyway.. I thought this movie was a lot better than all this cookie cutter crap that hollywood has been dishing out lately. The movie had some plot twists that were there for a reason and they weren't put there just for the sake of putting plot twists in the movie. Take the movie "Wild Things" for example. I thought that it was rediculously absurd the way that they kept twisting the plot in that movie.

I liked LOTR more, personally...
Ahhh, god bless newline screeners... Ooops, did I say that?

I thought "Training Day" was a great movie. Yeah, you don't leave the theater with that typical tingly warm feeling you normally get in American cinema, but you do get an appreciation for what the rookie had to go through. Denzel gives an excellent performance as the personification of evil (surpassed only by Tim Robbins in "Arlington Road")..

I was repulsed by the idea of street justice. Glad to see Denzel was playing a crooked cop.

I just saw this on rental last night. Didn't like it much myself.

For the first half, I was thinking, "This movie doesn't have any story", and by the end, I was thinking, "Oh, there's the story. How stupid."

It seems as though some of you are just intolerant of moral ambiguity (whereas, as a lawyer, I embrace it!). I thought this was a very good, if not great film, and Denzel was fantastic.

I saw it last night, really enjoyed it. Denzel was great in the movie. When the movie started, I was thinking, OK, this is going to be the typical buddy cop movie, where the young new guy impresses the older wise vet, and earns his respect and everything is right with the world at the end. Then the movie just starts turning and surprises you. I liked it.

I thought it kicked ass. Denzel is of course up for the oscar for his part. The way he played the part was amazing considering that everyone loves him and he ways plays such a good guy. Overall me and the wife loved the movie and it was a nice watch.

I think some people in here expect some perfect movie everytime they try to watch something...they build it up too much. It's all for entertainment.

It's not a clear-cut good vs. evil thing (except at the end) and apparently a lot of people didn't like this about it. But I thought it was really well-done movie.

Some people thought it was bad because its mood was depressing and it was very dark, and to those I ask why the hell they watched it. It's not like the previews made it out to be Mary f*cking Poppins. :)

I agree with salvador, this movie was great.
Thats gotta be the first time denzel ever played a bad guy in a movie. I went back and saw it 3 times in the theatre.

what is not to like about the movie? ask yourself this. throughout the movie, did you or did you not agree with denzel's method of street justice? did you at times find yourself disagreeing because legally it's not right, yet at times you find yourself cheering that denzel beat the crap out of those 2 homeless guys? the way the movie puts you on the line and you're torn between which side to step over is different from the crap you always see in other movies. it makes you question your own belief. this sort of self interaction is totally awesome considering you don't just sit blindly through a movie.

for me, throughout the whole movie, i kept trying to justify denzel's action. first because it's how the streets are run and then later because maybe denzel is going to the extremeties to "test" the rookie. by the end i couldn't believe what a total jackass he was. totally awesome IMO. i might buy the dvd.

I guess it was too real for some people :p I watched it soooo many times. My favorite part was when Hoyt was in the Hill Side gangster house, some scary ish in there. The commentary on the dvd is interesting too, it's not some made up crap where people "play" and "act" as gangsters, murderers, etc. The neighborhoods, gangsters, and places in the movie are real.

Yeah, the part where he got setup in the mexicans apt was crazy. They were about to blast him when he found his cousins wallet, great part.

Yeah, that part in the movie was the freakiest. I thought he was gonna be screwed for sure....plus, the sheer thought of somebody dying that way....especially a police officer.... man that sucks.
