Finally ran 5k continuous without stopping

episodic

Lifer
Did it in right at 30 min. I know that is slow - but the is the most continuous running on the road I've ever done. Lots of firsts recently. I don't plan on upping the distance any more - just working on my time.

Congradulations! Make this the first step to a lifelong habit.

I always wondered what percentage of the population (in the US) is able to run 5K continuously. Looking around where I live, less than 5%?

awesome! Congrats! I reached that goal about 3 weeks ago.
I have to get back to you on the time...don't recall...it is in the garmin software.

Edit: Time is around 28:05

GJ man! You may think that's slow, but it's not too bad, and you're way ahead of all those that have never tried.

Good job! That's not slow, it is a good speed to work on endurance.

In the past, I increased my running speed the most after using a stairclimber for 3 weeks. It kills.

It's not slow, it might not be speedy but who defines what's slow and what's not? I just finished c25k and my 5k was ran @ about 5.5mph so you got me beat. What time are you shooting for? I'm in the exact same boat, I can do 5k, don't wanna do longer but want to do faster.

Good job. 30 minutes is certainly respectable, especially for someone who started running fairly recently.

Do you honestly believe that statistic? If I'm anywhere close to being in the fittest 5% of the country's population then that's truly horrifying.

That's great, man.

How long have you been running, and what was your progression? My current goal is to run a 5k without stopping next summer. I can run a little over a mile atm.

That was just an observation. But you have to realize, I'm in the South. Around here, there's a lot of chronic biscuit poisoning.

C.B.P. sounds like something I wouldn't mind suffering from 😀 And I'd say a persons definitely in the elite in the country if they can run 5k without stopping, hell I bet for most Americans even a fast power walk 5k would be tough.

Time is fine. You met the goal of the couch25k. Keep at it then move to an intermediate program. Increase time or go after a 8K.

FWIW: My best time was 24 minutes to do 2.7 miles. I never did a full 5K. Sucks but family problems caused me to put exercise off a bit). After not running for a while, I just did a 12 minute non stop run last week (1.2 or 1.3 miles) so i can't complain too much.

If that's true, that's beyond pathetic.

I'd put money on the fact that less than 25% of the country could run 1/4 mile.

And I'd bet less than 10% could do a 5K.

I bet 50% of the country over age 21 could easily eat half a bag of Doritos in one sitting though!

If any of that is true, people should stop wondering about rising health care costs! Every able-bodied person should be able to do a 5K.

Oh, I don't thin it is a secret, but no one is going to outlaw the junk food isle.

Here's to the first generation to be born with a lower life expectancy than their parents!

Why? I'd say a better gauge would be if a person could run a single mile. If a person ran a mile every morning for a year I bet they'd be unable to run 5k still. But I wouldn't say they're in bad shape. If a person worked out every day doing some cardio, some lifting whatever they're not going to magically start running 5k ever. Americans are definitely out of shape but even a lot of the people at my gym who are in pretty good shape couldn't run close to 5k.

Really depends on how they ran that mile. If you train with high-intensity mile runs, doing a slower-paced 5K is not at all hard. I have very limited time during the week, and am usually limited to 2-3 30-40 minute high-intensity treadmill sessions during the week, but have no trouble completing a slower 10-12 mile run on the weekends.

Dang 5k, I think the longest I have ever gone is about 1.5 miles but I have never been a real runner. Even that is a big thing for me though because a year ago I dont think I could run for 2-3 minutes and a very slow pace.
