Finally on Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 Pro onto my second HDD and let me tell you, coming from Windows XP, this this is blazing fast! I'm actually thinking of using Windows 7 as my main OS now that I have it and its working wonderfully! This is what I have been missing all along!

Windows 8 is faster.
I don't have a windows 8 code.
If you haven't upgraded to SSDs already, do it and it'll be night and day.
Yea Windows 8 starts up and shuts down faster. Slap on Classicshell or w/e Win7 skin and it's like Win7 again.
I can't afford an SSD right now
Was this thread stuck in limbo for 3 years before finally posting or something?
Nope. My school was throwing away old computers and they had Windows 7 Pro stickers on them so I took one (the sticker) :awe:

In b4 the "thats illegaaall blah blah you will go to jail for 100 years for violation of ToS maybe etc" crowd

Grats on the upgrade  I enjoyed my time with windows 7!

Seriously... main OS was Windows 7 as soon as I got the beta for download.

Can't stand using XP anymore. Would rather have Vista.

People forget how awful Windows XP was, especially in the early days. Windows 7 is where everything just fell so neatly into place. Then they had to go screwing around with the GUI for Windows 8.

i like 7, good OS...

i've went Mint+KDE over 7 for my workstation though, i just like the nix environment better to each his own...

Vista sucked, so I downgraded to XP

I don't know if its illegal, considering the fact that my school, like many others, still use WinXP for everything. They aren't using it, so I shall

Cool, Win7 is the best MS consumer OS yet. I still have hope they'll fix Win8 substantially with Blue/8.1 though.

Win8 isn't that bad really. I mostly ignore the changes, but I can't say I gained anything from it. Crossing my fingers for the native boot to desktop in 8.1 and maybe adding and expert mode to settings where you can get to control panel through gui.

Yes you do. We know it, you know it. It's just that nobody cares. 😛
Well I don't know, it probably is, but seriously, schools don't use it so its a waste of money. They get these nice machines and slap XP on it.

I don't want to play with 8, I've heard some bad things about it

I used windows 7 for a few months when I built this machine about a year ago. Did not mind it at all, but my ultimate goal was upgrading to Linux, so ended up doing that.

Still on XP at work, and I don't see them ever changing due to all the proprietary software.

I've been meaning to play with 8, but no way would I consider it as my main OS. It could be ok for a HTPC or touch device though, but I still prefer Linux for that.

Windows XP has had so many updates that it has slowed down a lot.
Plus, Windows 7 takes advantage of modern processors much better.

I haven't timed Win8's boot / shutdown times, but I've seen it on more than one occasion that it switches off the screen quite a while before it has shut down. No doubt in an attempt to show us how fast it is.

I can't say I've seen any slowdown of XP due to updates.

Windows 8 wouldn't be so bad if you could benefit from the performance improvements but choose whether you want Metro or full Aero. Metro really doesn't belong on desktops and laptops. Microsoft's going through this weird hybrid gadget phase. Devices that do two things at once but neither particularly well.
