Better late to the party than never I guess. I like Windows 7 also. I have Windows 8 but uninstalled it and went back to 7 for several reasons I won't get into. There are already numerous Win8 vs Win7 threads in this sub forum.

We do, but I'm raving about Win7 right now.

I've been on XP for the last 7 years (or however long I've had this computer) :colbert:

I see it got moved, yea, I've been using 7 along with a SSD for about 6 months now, huge difference, almost like a new system. I went the 64 bit route and have had no problems at all. The one game I still play a lot (Silent Hunter3 with GW expansion mod) runs perfectly. Strange thing is that when I did the Win7 compatibility check it told me it was not compatible so I was looking at a dual boot situation but I installed it anyway and it works way better than on XP, probably due to 7's better use of memory..

Curious your school is throwing out unregistered Win7 serial stickers (which I assume so since you seem able to register it on your own PC).

Win8 is indeed a lot faster and makes Win7 look sluggish in comparison. I hate the interface myself though to be fair I have not tried out any of the shell/GUI programs.

Still have a friend or two doggedly sticking to XP for reasons I don't care to remember (because obviously they are not willing to learn new things regardless of what they tell me). Glad to see none of that here.

Enjoy the OS.

Well I assume my school gets the computers from the school system, and there they are loaded up with XP and the necessary programs. I'm pretty sure they were registered once (when they were shipped) or maybe the school system has a deal that they're blank but has the serial on them, who knows.

and poo, this was moved.

Haha! Thats what I was thinking, delayed zombie thread?

Anyway to the OP, welcome to 2009. ;)

Wow has it already been that long? It feels like it was not that long ago it was released. Damn. I still consider it "the latest thing" but guess that's just me trying to deny the existence of Windows 8. And the fact that all PCs I see are on XP. If I was not on Linux, I'd be on 7 though. Was using XP till around last year when I built this PC.

I have been with XP Pro since it was released all those years ago but also have Windows 7 :)

Got my mum using Win7 a few weeks ago from XP(Win7 is actually faster then XP even on her old Pentium4 PC ).

Lastweek she received her first Android tablet from my brother in Australia and seems fine using it.

I'm going to get her using Linux Mint down the road, she is doing well at nearly 70 :) .

I reluctantly went to W7 when I built my current computer, but I'm glad I toughed it out... W7 is clearly better than XP, although it has it's moments. I still have XP on 3 Dells just because they are so old I don't want to try to switch to W7 and then deal with drivers and such.

Win7 is super fast (compared to xp) on my 7 year old desktop (with upgrades of course)

The drivers installed fine on my computer, it found them automatically which was nice. It even installed most of the drivers for me!

I still see a lot of business's that still use XP but that's probably because they don't want to pay for all those licenses. I clung to XP pro till last November but the combination of using a 64 bit OS and a SSD makes even an old E8400@3.6 seem like a fast system.

E8400@3.6 IS a fast system. That's what I have in my desktop. It will benchmark better than some of the older i5 systems.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Or the software only works on XP and stuff like that

It's fast enough for me, still churning along in a Gigabyte 775 mobo. Really, unless your a high-end gamer most people would be fine with it, even though it's (gasp) 2008 technology...
