Well my power supply finally arrived today, and I hooked it up to my Athlon64 3500 machine, and I must say, even with all the bad press that it's getting these days, it's a great card..

And it's not as loud as some people make it out to be (at least mine isn't)..

It's in my mid-tower under my desk and I can hardly hear the video card fan spin up (I can hear it, but I could have also heard the X1600 and X800 fans as well). For such a big cooler it's damn quiet.

Although I admit the drivers do need work. Only tried a few of ATI's older demos (Toy Shop, The Assassin etc.) and they all run beautifully, and tried CS:S at 1600x1200.. which ran fine but the shadows weren't shadows.. they were more white.. which was weird, other than that though it was fine. The Video Stress Test ran at around 118fps at 1600x1200 on that machine..

Benchmark it in some of the nonstandard titles. Something other than HL2Ep1, FEAR, BF2142, Company of Heroes, Oblivion etc.

Xbit looked at some other titles, but some of their numbers are highly suspect and thus cast doubt on all of their figures.

what else is there that isn't ancient and would even matter if you had a card like that?

I don't know personally.

If you don't mind, can you run my benchmark? Just hit Enter when you run the app and tell me the numbers it gives you in the end.

Your benchmark sucketh :)

Heh :)

I tried using F1 to use SM3 hardware, but it said the card didn't support PS3... ahh.. yeah it does :)

Other than that I got around 1500fps.. (no mandelbrot on the screen)

Just ran in on my X1600 Pro... and I think there's a bug somewhere when running on the 2900XT:) The X1600 Pro got 16fps..

I could benchmark anything that has a DEMO :) I'm not made of money you know :)

It ran fine on x1k cards, 7-series and 8-series cards. I wouldn't be surprised if it's another driver bug.

I am really interested in driver stability. Not about artifacts in games, but rather system level. Do you experience any problem (BSOD, crash, reboot, lock-up, screen corruption) in everyday use? Such concerns are the only thing that holds me on purchasing one of these puppies and I haven't gotten any satisfactory answers yet.

What would satisy you? Leave it running a demo for 24hrs? system uptime? I usually leave that machine running 24hrs a day and run CS:S every day for an hour or so...as well as anything else that I may want to look at...

anything you want tested in particular..?

Got this power supply:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=371923

(got a rebate...ended up being $169)..

Just running 2x6 pin.. the PSU has an 8-pin connector, but it's not labelled as a PCI-E connector, so not sure if the pin layout is the same..

Thats funny, web-site says it has 2 PCIe 8 pins & 4 6 pin PCIe!?

The score would be a bit irrelevant, as the PC it's running on is an Athlon64 3500 with 1GB RAM (333Mhz)...so the overall score will be very low (considering the CPU scores were pathetic)..

You would have some spare money if you didn't get a card that required a $170 psu!

Then he wouldn't need to buy the games to benchmark the card. :p

Exactly.. but then again the power supply wasn't just for the Radeon..

The next best PSU I had was an Ultra 500-550W PSU that was free after rebate... but that didn't have enough PCI-E connectors (I think at best it had one)..

maybe im running this benchmark wrong. what options did you run, or should i say not run because i just watched a 8800gtx get 19 fps.

back to the 2900xt. heres what i got on one card in 3dmark06, 12k with mild over clocking. not to shabby, my new psu just for the cards arrives today so i should be able to get some full on overclocked crossfire benchies today.
