Finally found the perfect multi-tool.

No Lifer
Sog Crosscut.

Been through the Leatherman Micra, Style, Style CS, Freestyle, Squirt, Juice, Gerber Vise, and a couple others.
Micra was nice but not great. I like the Vise and Squirt cuz the blades are located on the outside, you dont have to open the whole tool up to get at things. It was also the only good quality item Leatherman made in the mini-tool line. The Style and Style CS feel especially crappy. Freestyle only has a knife and pliers. Juice and Squirt are loaded with the tools I like, but not great quality.
Gerber Vise was quality and versatile, but I lost it. As average as it was I didn't feel like buying another.

Only downside to the Crosscut is the stupid plastic toothpick. It was so lame I wrote to Sog to suggest they replace it with something, ANYTHING else.

I don't like the the SOG. It gets worn out and crappy fairly quickly. Scissors in a knife are always an issue. They get a little weird, and it's hard to make them right again. So far, the best small scissors I've had are in my Victorinox Swiss Army knives, but they're pretty small, and of limited utility.

4 inches closed?
Thats pretty much a full size tool, which I hate carrying around in my pocket.
I like having a minitool I can put on my keychain so its always available, but good enough quality that it can actually be useful to me. Had some really cheap keychain tools like the Guppie and this piece of crap. Its worth it to me to look for a good, reliable item.

I leave a full Leatherman in the glove compartment and a tool kit in my truck box, but rarely need either of them. Something on my person is much more likely to get used.

I've had my full size Sog for over 10 years now and its always been good for me.
I think you must have got a bad one.

do any of these have a little LED light? that's the one thing i would love.

Most multitools with a light usually suck as tools and suck as lights.
I'd recommend a Photon II and clip it to your zipper or keychain.

They're super powerful for being so small. And the battery actually lasts a while.

What are you doing and where are you going that you need a multi tool everywhere? You sit down and think....you know what? Now is a perfect time to file my nails.

Actually the nail file is the least used tool for me. I just bite my nails.
A pocket tool is nice when you ARENT expecting to use it. If I knew in advance I would need to do work I would take a tool kit with me. Multi-tools rarely excel at any one thing (except maybe the pliers). They are a convenience for carrying everyday so you dont get surprised by something unexpected and have to run around looking for a tool.

Hmm. I wouldn't mind a nice multi tool. So this Sog thing is better than the Leathermans at half the price? :hmm:
