LOL unfortunately my bass is pretty loud, I've turned it down on the logitech "reciever" its at the first notch, otherwise I loose bass all together. The sub is sitting on a wooden bookshelf, and its in this cubby hole type deal so its pretty loud, once I get my DTS sound card it should fix that problem.

also I'put my speakers lower but as I said its an apartment and I dont want too many holes in the walls. I've had this projector about 72 hours and have over 40 hours of lamp life used, its crazy. I hope I dont have to replace the bulb at 3000. (using low lamp and dynamic iris, which gets a little kooky once in a while) Any suggestions on a suitable sound card for my HTPC that supports Windows Media Center Edition as well as Dolby Digital Live Encoding? MMMmmmMMM sweet, sweet, DD Live.

I wouldn't bother getting a card with DDL for that set.

Something like a X-Mystique is going to run you about $100, it doesn't support the higher EAX modes, and the real benefit of doing it is to keep cables down/have your HT receiver do the DAC conversions etc instead of your soundcard.

What card do you have now?

I would add some white cable covers to conceal the speaker wires. Just to give it a more polished look.

its an apartment so I dont want to put up too much contruction and as I said I spent all my money on the projector (I'm in college)

that is freaking awesome. i would go to your place all the fvckign time; i can't believe you did this in college. awesome.

yoyoyohowsdajello gave me a good bit of help so props to him, and hes in college too!

Definitely props man, I've got surround sound in my living room with a 12 inch powered sub, but I haven't taken the projector plunge yet...I'm a little worried that if I do, when I have girls over for a movie they'll want to watch in the living room instead of the bed room heh.

Tru, I am one such a-hole, but my neighbors are cool as hell, if not a little crazy, they keep their motorcycles inside and sometimes decide 4 am is a good time to rev the hell out of them (inside their apartment) so we even out :D

LOL its funny you mention that card because its the one I'm looking at, because its supports upscaling to 5.1 which my current card does not. I've got a Chaintech Envy24? Sound card, its got digital Optical out so I use that, I wish I could get 5.1 in games though, which I believe the Mistique-X will give me.

I went from the Chaintech AV-710 to the X-Mystique.

If you do, make sure you get the drivers off the site and not the disk.

I really don't game enough to justify getting it.

If I were making the decison about this now, I think I'd get the low end X-Fi for gaming and keep the Chaintech in there too for sending digital out to my receiver.

can I do that? can I put a sound card, say an Audigy 2zs and have it encode the audio and then have the chaintech export it?

I meant use the analog connection from the creative card for games to the speakers... and have a digital connection from the Chaintech to the speakers.

I haven't run dual soundcards before, but I know it can be done. I think people over at Headfi have more experience with that.

Anyway, select in windows what soundcard to use for a given time and then switch the input on your speakers for which input you want to use (6 channel direct for the creative card or digital optical for the Chaintech)

Well its not really the design. I just wish I could find a higher resolution LCD and afford a brighter bulb.

Here is my thread.

Congratulations!!!!

I hope that you will get all the enjoyment and pleasure from YOUR HT that YOU BUILT (isn't it nice to say "I Did It Myself!" ?) as I do with my HT.

You're obviously a movie buff; you would much rather enjoy the film as the director intended; dark room, loud sound, no screaming idiots, no sticky floors, than suffer the outrage of high ticket prices and crappy service most theaters offer today!

I am very happy for you...and you've given me an idea with the curtain; I live in an apartment too....ambient light kills me in the daytime. Let me see if I can dig up a pic of the front...

Ah...Here we are.

Screen is 16x9, 108" diagonal, made of Blackout cloth on a 1x3" birch timber frame. Projector is a DLP, InFocus Screenplay 4805. I love it. You can see the blinds that cover the patio doors on the right. That's my problem during the day. I may put up a sliding curtain like you have. :)

I liked movies so much I decided to become a film maker. I'm a film and television student at SCAD.

Smart move. With the lights off, you don't see any cables anyway!!! :D Your source is all important.

Hook that PJ up to your DVD with either a Component or DVI cable and you'll never want to go to a theater again. Not kidding.
