We won't have fully realized flying cars until we can couple autopilot/AI-driven cars with that of matured VTOL systems (and jets/forward-directed impellers).
These helicopter and mini-Cessna approaches to "the flying car" are half-assed and attempting to cash in on the "we're in the future" craze.
But it will be critical such future flying cars are entirely AI-driven. That, or in the future all street-based vehicles are entirely AI-driven, and a license for a flying car is highly, highly restrictive and incredibly difficult to obtain (IOW, not handed out like candy like licenses of today). And more importantly, we'll have to be far less PC and overly soft, and actually have the balls to strip licenses for even a mundane mistake that otherwise never costed anyone a dime, let alone caused any harm.
It's very possible, but we are not ready yet. Technologically, and at fundamental human level, we just aren't capable of the true flying car dream. We can be, in time. Human-piloted vehicles filling the skies, err... probably not, possibly never - we're too stupid and I see no chance of the fundamental nature of human behavior changing... but a lot of vehicles in the sky is possible, so long as AI is in control.
