Attempted voter fraud. How very Republican of you.
BTW, Pastor Cook, you're also in direct violation of your tax exempt status for violation of church and state separation.

Unofficial Ballot Drop Box Appears In Front Of Baptist Church In Castaic

CASTAIC (CBSLA) — Shannon Kaehny first spotted it on Facebook: a grey metal container with a taped sign that read “Official Ballot Drop Box” outside of Freedom’s Way Baptist Church.
The pastor, Jerry Cook, had posted the photo with the caption “Our church has a voting drop box in front of our complex — if you are voting early, drop your ballot on by.”

But, when Kaehny and others reached out to the L.A. County Recorder/Registrar’s office, they responded on social media, saying: “This is not an official vote by mail drop box and does not comply with [state] regulations for drop boxes.”

“Oh, it was insane!” Kaehny said. “I can’t imagine in what world that you would think that that’s acceptable.”

The registrar’s office told KCAL9 they are trying to reach Pastor Cook and are working with counsel to issue a cease and desist letter. However, the drop box is already gone.
Other posts on the church’s website show it hosting a forum for Republican local candidates and criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement. With that in mind, some locals said they are suspicious of what the church’s intentions were with the box.

“If you believe in your candidate, there’s no reason to try to fudge with the election at all,” Kaehny said. “It’s an attack on democracy, it’s not ok, and it pissed me off.”

“It was up for like four days before I even saw it, before it kinda started getting traction, so I’m really worried that somebody put their ballot in there and that he saw it was for a certain candidate or saw whatever and just tore it up and threw it away,” said Matthew Judge.

KCAL9 made numerous attempts to reach Pastor Cook by phone, social media, and email to find out whether he knew the drop box was not in compliance and what he’s done with any ballots that were dropped off. He has not responded as of publication.

It is unclear what further action that election officials might take against the church and pastor beyond telling him to remove the box.

“This is far less than ideal in a a far less than ideal election when we are desperately trying to tell people that they can trust the election systems, where we’re telling people if you don’t trust the mail, then use an official ballot drop box,” said Loyola Law Professor Jessica Levinson. “And now we have a church using what looks like a filing cabinet and saying it’s an official ballot drop box when it’s not. This does not do good things for people’s trust in our elections.”

Anyone wanting to vote using the ballot mailed to them can drop it off at one of the 400 secure ballot drop boxes in L.A. County. The locations of each box can be found online. Everyone can track their ballots all the way until it has been counted by signing up for “Where’s My Ballot?” on the Secretary of State’s website.

I know a few born again acquaintances of mine that had what appeared to be an overnight transformation from being normal (subjective) human beings morphing into rabid Trump supporters due to their church elders preaching politics from their pulpits.

Don't know what's to become of them should Trump, like so many of his former close associates end up in jail. Methinks there will be some soul searching for trying to explain why they thought their church leader's support for Trump was good advice coming straight from heaven when the guy they put their unconditional faith in gets convicted for numerous crimes against the people, not that there's a mountain of factually proven evidence of his ongoing malfeasance already out in the open that the whole world has borne witness to.

We need to further strengthen the Johnson amendment and empower the IRS to investigate. It's gotten so out of control. Church leaders were speaking out against COVID protections because they follow the Republican leaders like they are Jesus reborn. They literally killed people in support of the president. I don't know how much more evidence one needs to show they are endorsing a political party.

They will simply claim victim status as all the evil of the world conspired to frame their chosen one.

Pretty much this. So much easier to brew up some kind of dismissive excuse for their mislaid loyalties than to take a good hard look at themselves and the lives lost due directly to their choice of who should have represented their religious beliefs better.

Believing their deity is infallible and then assigning that infallibility to their supposedly pious religious elders of whom are as much human as any of the rest of us makes for some disastrous choices, a perfect example thereof is having Trump misrepresenting their political interests because their religious views compelled them to place their faith in one of the most malicious inhumane criminal sinners to ever hold the office.

Looking at CA ballot box laws all one has to do is be an official ballot box retriever, order a ballot ox on Amazon, and youre good to go.

The second part is not defined by the first. Just because a person is an official ballot retriever does not mean they can set up their own drop box. The proposition is absurd. I doubt that any of the parties involved are official retrievers or they'd know that.

I doubt nefarious intent but not how goofy it is to do such things.

I don't even get how this would play out.
Who would this hurt more? I'm guessing 99.9% of the votes that would go in there would be for Trump. And any of those submitted in that box could not be counted unless they were taken to an official ballot box. And if they planned on opening the sealed envelopes before taking them to the official site (and only taking the Trump ones) those ballots would not be counted as they are no longer sealed. I'm missing some part of the plan here?

Of course there are ballot box requirements but you can still buy one off Amazon. So yes. You can set up your own if youre registered as a retriever.

He should probably just read his link next time.

20141. Definitions.
Designated ballot retrievers” shall mean authorized county representatives, poll workers, or vote center workers, assigned to retrieve voted ballots together from polling places prior to the closing of the polls, or temporary workers or volunteers retained for the purpose of retrieving voted ballots from polling places prior to the closing of the polls.

So no, you cant just order one off amazon and do whatever.
