Usually run my Athlon-C 1333 at 1427, as 1466 is only stable for an hour or so and 1500 for a few mins, that night it crunched for about 12 hours at 1500. It never hit 1500 before except when I was experimenting. (The rules allow for switching up a notch if CPU temp goes below 55C, and down again if it goes over 57C).

Hi , I just joined this after noon and set up exactly as it's sid on the site,
I d/l 25 units, the first one finished in 3:40 it tried to transmit , but reported "nosuch file or directory" and "will try again in 1 hour".
I.m new to this and would like to know if this is normal. Also I've benn readingthepost and seeing that you can cache them and send them later. What do I have to do to set this up???

Thanks.

Nice to have you aboard techniauto I'll try and answer your questions.

There have been problems with connections to Berkeley recently due to network problems on their end. Are you using the team proxy?

You can save up your results and upload them when you want to by unchecking the autotransmit button in setidriver. If you do this you will have to remember to hit transmit every so often so you don't use up your cache.

I just joined.... I had 72 workunits already (from my old, slow laptop and my dorm's ScavHunt team a few years back...). So whoever's in charge of this needs to subtract those since they don't count in the race, right?

Welcome aboard wbwither :D

You are correct for purposes of the race your exisiting units don't count, but they do count in the big picture :D

Glad to have you on the TeAm :D :D :D

If there is anything you need, don't hesitate to ask :D

Is it too late to join?

I've got (3) P3 866Mhz with 384MB REV3 RAM in each of my own to contribute :)

Also, is there a linux version of the SETI@home software? One of the machines is running RH7.2...

It doesn't matter if I'm ADSL does it?

Welcome to the team her209! It's never too late to join and the race with DSLR is still going on (although we are kicking mjor butt).

You can find a linux client here although I'm not sure which one it is since I'm no linux expert. Others here are though so just ask and they will be glad to help you out.

Those are some nice boxes you have there. Connection type doesn't matter but that ADSL can't hurt.:) Connections to Berkeley are pretty crappy right now as they have bandwidth restraints but if you go through one of our team proxies you won't have any problems.

Hey all,

I am currently a member (member name: trisweb) of a S@H team without any particular purpose... and I like AnandTech, so I joined up. I hope I am of some assistance, not only to the race, but to the world rank; and of course, to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence as well, in which I have much interest and hope.

My rig (just one, maybe I'll get my other two on too) is brand new, and in the last month, I've gone from 27hrs/WU on my old K62-550 to 4hrs/WU on my OCd Athlon XP 1700+. I have 24WUs going in, 18 of which I did in the last three weeks on my new system.

I used to have SETI going only as a screensaver, but I switched to always on mode. Should get 2-3 WU's a day now. I think I'll switch to that non-GUI version, but it seems to be working pretty good now, with the blank screen option (in the scrnsaver) and always on mode.

Glad to have a purpose for all my wasted processing power now.

Just joined, couple of questions:
Why is my icon yellow?
How do I know how many WU/day do I have?
Do I have to do anything to send my workload to anywhere?
How do you get all the stats you are getting?
What should the desired cache size be? I have 1600+ @ 1900+.
How do I know if the transmission was/was not successful?

I guess that's it for now. I think I'll switch to GUI version, it's prettier and easier to understand.

Berkeley is having problems with bandwidth and you have units that are ready for upload. Here is a list of the TeAm proxies in this thread. Right now Orangekid's is down so you might want to pick one of the others. Make the changes in SetiDriver and save the config. It would probably be a good idea to pm the owner of the queue so they will set you up with enough WUs.

<< How do I know how many WU/day do I have?

I am going to tackle all these together. There are many places to get stats. The first is Berkeley where you can get your individual stats here. At 1:00pm CST, Smokeball updates a great number of stat reports here. Soni maintains a nice set of stats here. There are many others and depending on which queue you select there will be more stats there.

<< What should the desired cache size be? I have 1600+ @ 1900+.

You desired cache size should be set for at least 3-4 days worth of work if not more. The 1600+ should do about 6-7 WUs per day and the 1900+ should do 7 WUs per day. I would recommend a cache size of 35 or more for each of them. You will know a transmission is successful when the satellite turns to green showing that it is transmitting and then to blue showing it is doing nothing but crunching.

<< I guess that's it for now. I think I'll switch to GUI version, it's prettier and easier to understand. >>

You are certainly welcome to change if you would like, but there are somethings you should be aware of: 1) The GUI is much slower than the CLI 2) With the problems that Berkeley is having with bandwidth, I am not sure how you cache units for the CLI (Maybe someone who is more experienced with it than I am can answer that).

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any other questions you might have. I would recommend starting a new thread though as more people will notice.

Oh and if I forgot to mention it Welcome to the TeAm :D :D :D :D :D

The only way I know of to store WU's for the GUI version is to install SETIQ ,or just connect to some other SETIQ (or do both:))

If you really must use the GUI version ,set it to always run & minimise the window ,if the screen saver is set ,go to screensaver settings & enable 'blank screen' & set to a max of 5mins.Not doing this will result x2 WU times! ,as a result of the graphics being drawn

Btw I think he meant he had an XP 1600 running at 1900 :)

Cool, thanks for the help, it seems all is working :) I got SETIWatch, so I got some stats from there, I think I won't be needed any help anytime soon and I WON'T be turning my computer off either :D BTW, I'm getting 7.5 WU/day thanks to my Crucial 512MB 4-way Interleave RAM running at 152MHz :)
