Welcome to the team mjquilly,Derango & nemur :D

Re OK's SETIQ ,doesn't OK have to manually input names for clients(using IP) not having individual SETIQ's?

Smokeball
I wouldn't go for as large a cache as 1 month because SETI resubmit the WU's after 1months MIA ,3weeks max gives a bit of a safe margin :)

Incidently the old SETIQ was much easier for sneaker netting :)

Assimilator1 is right about a month old WUs. They might be considered stale by SetiAtHome. ;)

/yeah, but they still count toward you and the team's production. :Q

/you shouldn't have told them that.

/yeah, but it's true

/but you still shouldn't have told them that

/OH

If you have an "always on" internet connection, you can set SetiDriver to AUTO TRANSMIT and forget it.

If you have to manually logon, there are two ways to go. You can set the SetiDriver to AUTO TRANSMIT and if you stay on long enough it will eventually start transmitting. The way most folks handle this is to uncheck AUTO TRANSMIT. When they get on the internet they just open SetiDriver and click on the TRANSMIT button.

Contact the team coordinator, who I believe is Baldy. He will let you know what needs to be done. :)

I believe that any WUs that were in your Q prior to the start of the race will be removed from our total once you've flushed them.

We are in a SETI race with DSL Reports and it has to do with some of the ground rules that were laid down before the race started.

I don't see your name in our Seti TeAm Roster, we would like you to join us and defend AnandTech's honor in this dual of the Titans. :D

Smokeball:

my account w/ SETI@Home is under my real name, not the handle I use in the forums (the email I use is very similar to my handle though); when I joined TA my WUs were just transferred over...
do I need to dump anything or what not?

KillerMowse,

Yes, I see you there as: Emerson Cristal :D

It looks like you are putting in from 2 to 3 WUs @ day and have been pretty steady so there is nothing you need to do except keep on crunching. :)

Of course, you could treat yourself to a nice present and build an AMD 1900+ XP. :D LOL

yeh, that would be a treat... but funds were allocated elsewhere, and rather unwisely at that...
hopefully by this time next year it'll be arranged to materialize so...
anyhow, I'm good to go eh...?
BTW, I just uninstalled the GUI version and replaced it w/ the CLI version ala SETI Driver, as I found out it's faster :)
I used the email that I've been using w/ the GUI version when it asked me for it; and the password, of course.
I should be alright, right? I mean, I don't have to re-join TA? which I did anyhow... err, anything else I'm missing?

Switching from the GUI Client to the CLI Client is going to make a big difference in the number of WUs you do each day. :D

You did just right by selecting option 2 and entering your old SETI EMAIL ADDRESS and you are still listed as on the TeAM. ;)

You are "GOOD TO GO". :)

kewl...
how about the screensaver?
on yer instructions on one of the threads you said Win9x/ME users should set it to "Blank Screen"
do you mean no screensaver? or you talking 'bout the desktop background?

There is an option for blank screensaver, but no screensaver will work as well. You can set your monitor to power down after 15min or whatever timeframe you want or like me you can just turn it off when you are not on it :D

Welcome to the TeAm Killermowse :D

He he, KillerMowse has been a member for quite a while now and his SETI NAME is Emerson Cristal. Since around March, 2001 I believe....longer than me.

It not that big of a deal but there is a little difference in CPU usage between the BLANK SCREEN SAVER in Win98/Me and NO SCREEN SAVER. NO SCREEN SAVER keeps displaying the DESKTOP which uses some CPU cycles whereas the BLANK SCREEN SAVER sends no signals whatsoever to the video card.

I've been told that even though you turn off your monitor manually or use Power Management to shut down the monitor after a time span that you specify, the CPU still sends a signal to the video card and therefore does waste a very small amount of CPU cycles. Any experts out there care to verify this one way or the other?

:)

You can usually find "additional screen savers" in your ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS/WINDOWS COMPONENTS area (named differently in different versions of Windows). You should get the "Blank Screen Saver" as one of the added screen savers added to your choices. ;)

In mine (Win 2K server) the blank one is listed as: "Default Screen Saver"

<< my computer at home is not connected to the internet at all times so i have to cache them up. i will be making one large dump when i go home. will that be a problem (itll probably be around jan 7th). all the work units should be from Jan 1st on. >>

I'm kinda confused... and I will just ask a simply question right now. I joined the Team on Jan 1st here(the join date says Jan 2nd due to time zone crap) and I've reported back 16 WU's. I'm guessing I'm considered "new member" per rule. Is this counted and am I considered to be making any contribution to the team?

Also... you might see considerable jump in my WU's too. I started with one machine, but a day after the race, I expanded to three machines and more importantly they're running on CLI cached with 30WU's.

When did the most current race started and when does it end... sorry for the ignorance...

Jerboy, you are doing just great and no worries, all of your Work Units are definitely helping the team.

Check out the "Official Race Stats" and you will see that the team has not been "Handicapped" by any of your production. ;)

Crunch on!

:)

1st welcome to the team :D

2nd ,its a good idea to set your WU cache to about 5days incase the SETI server goes down ,it doesn't happen too often but its still an occurence.

Jerboy
I'm a little surprised to see you've joined us! ,welcome to TA :)

Umm, dunno if I broke the rules... dunno when I dumped WUs, my peecee got left to itself a lot over Xmas/New Year, I didn't even see this race until tonight... dumped 10 WUs today, dumped about 18 in one go three days or so ago, some of which might have been completed before New Year... but you didn't really expect me to be playing with my 'puter around New Year here in Edinburgh, Scotland, did you?

(Actually the PC saw the New Year in with a festive faster-than-ever overclock, 'cos it was -8C that day, and I got some temp-related FSB rules running)
