1) Probably not. You'll want a heatsink like the Thermalright XP-120 and the LGA775 attachment.

Well, of course. We all do, but you said not to try to talk you out of the overpriced, overheating Intel choice. You've also picked a CPU that is very unlikely to ever be upgradeable because more advanced Intel processors will require a different socket. If you're happy with all that, then this computer should work great.

Regarding the case, it's attractive, and the price is reasonable, but there's nothing innovative about the interior design, and you do realize that with all-aluminum construction, you're not going to get a very quiet computer, don't you? I'd certainly throw another $50 into the pot and get an Antec P180, instead.

Also , I said if someone could recommend me an AMD system for the same amount of money, I just want to see what makes more sense.

Well, I'm going to try to phrase this in a way that's not too insulting, but I think that reasoning is flawed. We may have biases toward certain brands, but if we're making intelligent decisions, especially expensive ones, we should try to objectively weigh the pros and cons to make sure that our conclusion is rational rather than a thoughtless adherence to a prejudice we might have. Can you honestly say you've done that?

Oh, VERY nice, indeed. Good choices through and through. The only change I'd make at this point is an Antec P180 case instead of the Soprano, but it would cost an extra $50, and the improved silence and cooling might not be worth that much to you.

1) Get the Value VX. Not binned, but for 40 bucks less, you get a few FSB less. NOT WORTH IT.
2) Nice choice on the hard drive. You can get a cheaper IDE hard drive, but SATA cables are sometimes worth the extra 15 dollars. More airflow and less hastle.
3) Monarch has the regular 6600GT for 135. What benefits do TX give anyways? I'm not sure lol.
4) Try to get 3800+.. If you need ways to save that extra 110 dollars here how...

Get an IDE hard drive for 47 bucks after tax(no shipping!) after rebates. Check it out at the Hot deals section. Next, I would Get the DFI NF4-D Lan party motherboard. Monarch has it for 112 shipped, which chosts less than the regular DFI motherboard. You already heard about my OCZ value VX vs OCZ gold rant. Get the Value VX. Costs 100 shipped. Finally, get Windows Home for 87 bucks at newegg. This will help you save the cash for the 3800+ which is def worth it IMO.
 
if you like lifetime warranty, then get bfg vid card. any special reason for getting xp pro? do you even know the differences from xp home? i understand and respect your path to scottland, but be warned that its a very flimsy choice at hand.
 
Amd setup is MUCH better than intel one. If you want to know why, here are a few things...

AMD is 9 instructions per clock while Intel is 6, so measuring clock speed only (none of the other things that make AMD faster), 2.0 ghz AMD times 9 (IPC) = 18 divided by 6 (IPC for intel) = 3.0 ghz. In short, clock for clock ONLY (again, no other features considered), a 2.0 Ghz AMD is equvalent to a 3.0 Ghz Intel.

AMD has HyperTransport, Intel doesn't. That makes a HUGE difference in system latency.

AMD has an on die memory controller, probably one of the biggest performance differences between Intel and AMD.

AMD is cheaper than Intel bang-for-buck wise.

For developers, like me, Win XP pro is a must. The only place I cannot trade-off.
if 3800 x2 is worth extra $120 over 3700+, I'll try to find $120 without sacrificing other parts.
