Wow. The new design looks sexy. I think Nintendo just changed my mind about buying one 😀. My one complaint with the one shown at E3 was that it was fugly. This new look will definitely sell a few more units now.

Considering the fact that I don't own an SP, but the DS will play all GB, GBC, GBA games, and only costs $50 more than an SP................plus the graphics kick a$$ in Metroid DS............I'm buying.
Like I said, there's no way I'm tapping a screen with a stylus to fire at monsters.
That's the most retarded statement in this thread.
Great, it's retarded, and you dont know anything about how Metroid DS will work. Stop being a Raging Bitch.
The directional pad controls Samus' feet movements, while the stylus prompts a moveable cursor once you touch the screen. Holding the stylus on the screen and moving the cursor with it is how you look and aim. Tapping the screen fires Samus' weapon; obviously the faster you tap, the faster you fire. Holding down the stylus on the screen also charges your weapon. The L and R triggers lock on to a target and the four additional buttons allow you to change weapons. This is quite an innovative and fun way to tackle the control scheme of Metroid Prime.

Same here. The PSP will destroy the DS.Originally posted by: mrCide
horrible. garbage. i'll take the PSP, thanks.
They're both handhelds but they have different markets. That's the second most stupidest thing I've seen in this thread.
Wow, an eyeroll - what a great tort! You're comparing a $150 handheld to what, a $300 handheld? Handheld's target audience is towards the younger audience, probably anywhere from the age groun of 5-15. Look at the Gameboy's ass raping success over the years. Look at the so-called bad ass competitors, like the nGage, which priced itself out of the market off the bat. The PSP will be a moderate success in the older age group, but even if it was priced at $200 the DS would still have the name recognition of the Gameboy attached to it based off marketing and the fact that everyone who thinks handheld thinks Gameboy.

PSP = Slightly less powerful PS2 that cannot play DVDs (unless you purchase them theoretically on some small disc)
No new features really, which is why, in my opinion, it will turn into a console that consists mainly for PS2/PS1 ports. Why shouldn't developers do it that way if the technology is so similar?
Do you want to buy the same games twice? Once on PSP, once on PS2?

that's what they said about the ps2 when it came out. the thing cost 2 times as much as the next powerful dreamcast and 3 times as much as the n64.

Actually, nobody ever said that. The PS2 was brand-spankin' new, while the N64 and DC were showing their age. Sony only charged $300 at launch, which is the norm for consoles.
But how many parents are going to buy a $250 handheld for their 10-year-old's backpack?
While home consoles may be moving away from the "kiddie" image, handheld sales are still largely tied to younger audiences.

HERE HERE!!
gamecubes gba connectivity is just copying dreamcast and the vmu(one of the more recent powerful systems with dual screen play features)
nintendo is putting all its efforts into ds, sony is not.
if sony doesnt sell a bajillion psp's in a year they are gonna drop support, they havnt had a failing system yet, you think theyd want to keep it around(if it does fail)? the 3rd times the charm, ps1 and ps2 were luck and hype.
no game system has had two screens to work with yet(except for the game&watch, the first hand held) so this AUTOMATICALLY makes the DS more promising and interesting. -fan boys about the psp- "ohhh it can play movies and video games, its more interesting" yeah right, the gameboy can play movies if you get the proper after market devices, quality is poor, but when your watching a movie on the go quality isnt your concern.
how many ps2's do you know of breaking? and thoes arnt even PORTABLE!! sony's build quality is very poor, and im willing to bet the psp wont last in a 12 year olds backpack. i know the psp is aimed at adults, but if it cant last in a 12 year olds backpack thats a HUGE market sony is passing up.
do you really wanna BUY a UMD disc of whatever movie you can get for the same price or cheaper on dvd? not to mention you cant burn UMD's. psp is a money black hole for sony. UMD movies arnt gonna sell, UMD movies and movie playing on the psp is a gimick, dual screens is not a gimick. if you want an mp3 player get an ipod/whatever supports flac, if you want a portable game console get a sp/ds, if you want something that trys to do everything half a$$ed get anything with the name 'playstation' on it.
sony is like the microsoft of japan.

a $300 console is far from the norm. i clearly remember the price being the complaint from many people. the most expensive console back then was the dreamcast that debuted for $199. that was already a step up from $149 for the n64.
