Final List - need to order everything today. Please review this but keep in mind that I'm not a tech head. I don't know what overclocking is and I don't wanna know. I want to put together a solid, powerful system, then leave it the heck alone for 3 yrs or so. Please look at this list and let me know if anything needs to be changed.

Objective: Besides the usual, some video editing, movie making, DVD burning, music. No gaming. Need a powerful, quiet machine, future-proofed for 3-4 yrs.

I'll be getting a Dell 2005FPW monitor and I already have a Sony DVD-RW. These items aren't on the list.

COOLER MASTER Centurion 532 RC-532-SKN1 Black Aluminum bezel, SECC chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

all looks good except the psu. personally i would get a fsp(fortron), enermax, seasonic, pc&p or even and antec instead of a rosewill.

If you are not gaming, why buy a $300 video card designed soley for gaming?

Also, you may want to check out ZipZoomFly, as they are usually cheaper than the Egg, and have free shipping on almost everything.

Thanks, I'll check ZipZoomFly and also look into some other PSU but I don't wanna spend $200 on it. What other video card would you suggest for my needs? What other PSU for $50-75?

For video card, a 128MB X300 SE card will be fine. You wouldn't use anything more powerful unless you're gaming.

For PSU, if you are not overclocking, an Antec 400w or 430w would be fine.

Thanks guys, As per your reco, I'm getting a 400-450w fortron or antec PSU. Do I need to get any cables or anything else? I'd hate to have everything delivered and then wish I had also gotten this or that. My first time puter assembling experience.

Is there any specific 128mb video card you can recommend, that will work well with my mobo/cpu? TIA

I've put together a number of systems using a Rosewill PS. I have had no problems. The specs look good on it.

Don't get caught up in the "name game".

Don't get a ghetto video card... seriously the amount of programs out there that make use of Direct3D/OpenGL function calls that aren't games is a lot more than you'd think. Sapphire 100130VIVO: Dual DVI, OpenGL 2, 256-bit memory

I've had leaky caps in Rosewill PSUs. And the two Rosewill mice I've seen both had malfunctioning (every click is doubled) buttons. Maybe they've changed, but I won't try em again.

I still say even a GTO2 is way overkill. Any D3D or OGL he'd need would be taken care of with an X300 card,

How do sapphire cards rate vs eVGA cards? What other programs will benefit from a 256 card versus a 128 card? I was told eVGA cards are preferred for video editing. No?

Sure it may be, but I still say anything that doesn't solely use dedicated VRAM is no kill. It's a performance hit. I'd say this is acceptable enough

Video editing hardware recommendations rely on the NLE software you use.

awesome. I think I'm done with my list. I went with the eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB video card. All I gotta do now is to comparison shop for prices between NewEgg and ZipZoom and order the stuff. *whew*

Thanks for your suggestions and please add more if something's amiss.

money isn't the issue at all. never mind....my overall/general ignorance of PC technology is to blame. if i don't need SLI for anything, why should i get an SLI board? sorry, just trying to make the right choices for my rig.

How about the eVGA 6800 for $5 more before rebate, $5 less after rebate? It is a 256 bit, 256MB, 12 pipe card, vs. the 6600GT's 128 bit, 128MB, and 8 pipe's. However, the 6600GT has higher core and memory clock's, I'm sure another AT'er can tell us which is the better card.

Since you say "money isn't an issue", I'd consider getting two of that HDD for Raid 1, so that if one drive fails, you'll still be up and running. Again, I say this only b/c you say money isn't an issue, so an extra $100 for piece of mind is worth it IMO.

Also, pick up a 120mm fan to use as an exhust fan for the back of your case ( judging from the picture on newegg and one reviewer saying he bought one for the back, I'm assuming it only comes with one fan for the front).

Mobo: A8N E

There is utterly no point in an SLI board for a non gaming machine (unless of course you need a spare x16 PCI slot, but then again you won't need one of those either).
