Final List - need to order this today!!

I bought an abit sli board a couple of months ago thinking I could use 2 pci-e cards seperately for 2 monitors. Tuns out on my board at least it is for sli only, will not work independantly. So using the second pci-e is useless, unless they put out a bios update changing it. If that is even possible.

I just wanted to point that out because I didn't know that before hand when I bought mine. If I did I would have put the 20 or so bucks into something else on my list. There was more than $10 difference between boards when I bought mine. For $10 I would have probobly bought the same board knowing what I know now. This is also my first abit board. I always used asus but my last board had so many problems bios related that I decided to go the abit route. When they release a new bios they actually tell you what it is supposed to fix.

If you buy retail then it will come with a stock HSF that has a thermal pad attached to the bottom of it, the stock cooler is really quite good. Unless you need ultra low noise (the stock heatsinks aren't all that loud anyway) then i'd just use it as it is.

Also non stock heatsinks invalidate the warranty i think.

are you clueless? why would somebody who is not into gaming want one of the most finicky m/bs around? get a clue.

op - go with a m/b from asus, abit, epox, msi, even foxconn(very reliable), gigabyte or tyan.

I think the idea was a 2nd PCIe slot without getting an SLI mobo. Not that it matters.

Didnt realize DFI was such a horrible company. Only board Ive heard they had problems with is their crossfire version motherboard (cant remember the name at the moment). I just happened to notice that the DFi board had more options on it than the ASUS one (ex: 6 USB instead of 4 on the back) plus PCI-X slots instead of PCI (remember the OP wants to keep the board for at least 3 years). Dont get me wrong I think the ASUS board is great board, just figured the OP should look at other companies. You didnt have to lower yourself to the level of a three year old to voice your opinion. Thanks for the info about the board being "finicky" I'll look that up.

DFI boards are excellent overclockers, but very picky and excessivly complex for non overclocked systems.

All 939 motherboards have at least one PCIe x16 slot.

Most have at least one PCIe x1 slot too.

It's not PCI-X, that's very different to PCIe.

While your help was no doubt well intentioned you might want to read up a bit more on motherboards and thier strengths and weaknessesd before recomending them.

sheepman - i am not saying that dfi boards are bad, they are excellent o/cers but the op originally stated he is not o/cing and not very tech savvy. i wouldn't calling you clueless about recommending a hardcore enthusiast board that is known to be extremely ram finicky to a person who as expressed his level of knowledge and admitted he will not be o/cing at all "acting like a 3 year old"

i dont understand how DFI is "pro" board and while other boards are user friendly easy to handle boards.. to my eyes they are just the same.. DFI just have few more options that u can master by 15-20min of reading...

lol I think I ended up paying $99 for it. In trying to save $70-odd tax and $70-odd shipping at Newegg, I cancelled that order and ordered everything from ZipZoomFly. The damn Audigy card was $99. The $70-odd card was out of stock.

Some of us don't have that much time to research the lowest price for everything, what else can I say.

Since you don't overclock and don't need SLi, get this EPoX 9npa+ ultra motherboard. It's a pretty good board and has very good OCing ability (that's really an afterthought tho since you don't OC)

it is a known fact that dfi boards are very picky about the ram, that is the issue, plain and simple.

I know you have ordered but here is a little advice on the ram. Many reviews you see increase the clock speed with the increase in ram speed. That is why the results look so good. Take this for example. You can see very little gains for pure increases in memory. The last one is an increase in CPU speed along with ram. That is why it shows such a significant increase.

You still don't realized the problem.
The Audigy2 ZS is like the Athlon XP CPU, and that means no one is buying it anymore because there are cheap Athlon64s and even Semprons that are more powerful. The Audigy 2 ZS is a very old product, and people are selling it off for $30~40 dollors because a brand new retail box X-fi XtremeMusic (some 250 times more powerful than the Audigy 2 according to Creative?) can be easily had for under $100.
